Yes, please update the images! I've actually stopped playing because I'm tired of running into traps! If my only option is to spam trap detection on every square I intend to travel it becomes way too tedious. Every trap can be seen visibly on the map. I'm sorry that the trap system has caused you to stop playing the game!

How can I tell? Sorry, my 51 year old eyes aren't what they used to be. I really do want to play but can't tell and would like to know what I'm looking for. I've already bought all the dlc to both show my support and see how the story plays out!

I have learned to detect traps, but it does require decent eyesight: there are two types of traps (that I've seen so far), both based on different patterns on the regular ground. One has a reversed L shape and another something vaguely like a cross.
I still haven't figured out supposedly different pattern secret doors may have, though.

They are rather apparent, when you look over the field. The bear/fire traps on the rock have distinctive slanting on their texture. The pitfalls have a distinctive rant. Water traps are less noticeable, I haven't figured a way to identify them yet.

I finally got to it among other things This image shows the traps vs. normal tiles. In the northwest red box, you've got a pit trap. It has a distinct bordering where the pit trap will be when opened. In the south east, you've got spear traps, which show 3 oblong raised areas, kind of like a dinosaur footprint. I pulled each tile and put them above, glowing to try to help as well.

I really enjoy the trap system although I can see how one with visual problems would struggle (I have excellent vision and still miss them all the time). The pit traps are the easiest to spot with the distinct horizontal line running from the top middle to the upper west corner. In the middle is the spike water trap, they have a very noticeable white line that runs downward from the mid western point of the tile to the bottom left. Also they are nice because they are never along the shore so you know those steps are safe. The hardest for me is the spike land trap. Unless I am actively comparing them to non-trapped tiles I find they don't have an identifying mark, rather the lines in the tile are bolder. Forgot about the bomb trap, big black circle, haven't hit one of those so I don't even know what they do but as they have not been brought up I imagine everyone else is on the same page there. Good luck and remember that springing a trap while walking around is not that bad but once you do those Trese Brothers like to go trap crazy in areas so definitely look for more close by.

Thanks for putting up the image with the trap examples. Could you please show an example of a secret door? The original images don't show up any more for some reason.

Fallen, thank you so much for your response. I really wasn't expecting it. Not a knock on you by any means, but on the industry in general. You guys are definitely not the norm and I sincerely appreciate it!
While I appreciate the screenshot it still seems kinda tough for me. Benefits of growing old. I'll still push on, but it's going to take a while. Has there been any talk of just changing the color of the tile upon detection? I've been diligent in increasing my detection skills but just get "there's a trap nearby". A color change once detected would make it perfect!

sircedric - very cool request. I can see that we'd play a small highlight animation over trap tiles as they are detected. We can't leave a permanent marker on them, but we could do a pointed tile highlight. I've added it to the roadmap.

Unawares, (the guest), I don't have any screenshots atm, but I'll try to grab one sooner or later. Basially, you want to look for a little "V" scratch on the wall. Finding your first one is a pain, but once you know what to look for it's much easier. Not blatant enough to jump at you, but if you are looking for them they are easy to spot. Kind of like the traps, actually.
