I know that having some sort of save share system is in the works eventually. What is the timeline and major hurdles to making it possible to share saves between devices and platforms without rooting, etc?

Oooo ... I'd go one step further and suggest cloud-backup/sync so no matter what device you play, your party is just as you left them

We do not have the luxury of discussing timelines or giving ETA on projects. I can say that it is on the roadmap and that there are major hurdles that have to be overcome before we reach that point.

I was hoping this game supported that when I saw the Google+ sign in button...

I was hoping this game supported that when I saw the Google+ sign in button... Google Play Games Cloud Sync is definitely the best route for Android developers at this time. We've done prototyping with it and have been in discussion with the team that develops the game engine we use about it. As fallen said, we're not supporting it at this time but we are aware of it and working towards improvements for this part of the game.

I upgraded my phone from my Samsung Galaxy S4 to Samsung Galaxy S6. The old phone used rooted Cyanogenmod and the new used stock Android 5.x with the upgrade. My version of HoS also went up from 3.x to 4.x. I attempted to move my save game from the old phone to the new using MyBackup app. The data was restored to the new phone (no errors from MyBackup), but the saved game does not show up. I sadly feel this is to be expected. Please confirm if the 3.x saves are incompatible with the 4.x version of HoS, or if something else has gone awry. Also, I attempted to manually locate the save files on the old and new phones using a variety of directory searching programs, but could not. I wanted to be sure that MyBackup was not putting the save file in the wrong place which might happen in the two versions of HoS save in different relative locations. Could you tell me where to find the save as well, so I can check. Otherwise, I will just start over again.

First check that the game variant (Elite/not) is same on both devices.

As far as I can tell, both are just Heroes of Steel. I don't see "Elite" anywhere in the title. Both are linked to my Amazon account, the apps were downloaded from there and I have the same purchased characters and episodes on both phones. So which every version it is, it should be the same for both phones. BTW, the older phone has HoS ver. 3.3.21 and uses Android ver. 4.4.4. The newer phone uses HoS ver. 4.1.3 and Android ver. 5.0.2. Thanks.

We would never, and have never, introduced an update to a game that makes saves incompatible. That would be terrible. The saved game locations have not changed. It sounds like MyBackup is not working properly. Something else has clearly gone awry. You could also try a known and documented backup tool: www.tresebrothers.com/transfer-saved-games-between-devices/The saves are in /data/data/com.tresebrothers.games.heroesofosteel/
