The one thing that annoyed me in the underforge is that spiders aww able to spawn new creatures that have the same level of hp as they do. Worse, those new spiders can spawn more spiders.

Worse, those new spiders can spawn more spiders. slayernz - now you're just spreading lies! lol - neither are true. You've probably been listening to the rumors in the tavern, because the tales of horror from the UnderForge run far. 1) Summoners only summon minions, never more summoners. 2) We down-balanced the spider warriors so that they are not nearly as tough as they were in their first revision. That said, that combo is the nastiest thing in the game.

I'll have to get a party back there to test but I'm sure that the green spawning spiders spawned blue spawning spiders (or the other way around). Maybe I was quaffing one too many a potion that night ... and it was dark down there after all)

Chatting with the Storm Brother, I am reminded of the Smith's Horde and the fact that while the road to the bottom of the Underforge is a lava filled pit of despair, the drops are freaking amazing. Yes, I know, there are spider summoning monsters wearing the perfect form ... but they're guarding chests of magical gear around every corner =)

I do hope that everyone finds the rewards of the Smith's Horde worth the grueling gauntlet that is the Underforge.
I also wouldn't put it past Cory to have reforged spiders spawning yet more reforged spiders ad infinitum. Remember guys there is a reason he is know as the 'Scary Trese' haha!

I left some chests thinking that I could come back after taking out the Smith, but unfortunately all hell broke loose and everything was lost. very sad for me - which is another reason why I want to go back

"It seems like part of the difficulty is that you characters start getting their skills maxed out and you can no longer stay ahead by pumping a weapon and strength or dexterity. " I think you hit the nail on the head. In EP1 and first parts of EP2, a player could simply boosts weapon skill and its associated attribute to maintain an edge in a fight. However, as Skills and Attributes get maxed out, parties need to adjust either through the use of accessories, buffs or a complete party re-build. Previous party build discussions concluded players would have to adjust to maxing out, the same way they had to adjust to enemies getting AoE attacks and better AI. While there are numerous effective party builds, EP Nightmare pushes on the cracks, often making one-dimensional parties ineffective. I've had to tweak a direct damage and range focused party to include buffs and debuffs in order to continue to be effective in the Nightmare version of the Underforge and other tough areas. A party with direct damage dealing talents with no buffs /de-buffs was unable to make necessary improvements to the dice pool. And Level 10 Firebolt and Level 10 Aimed shot start to loose their dominance as enemies get higher defenses and higher HP. I adusted by including Warder's Shield to avoid getting hit and Chocking Ash to help land hits. In return, I gave up on learning Firestorm and upping Ethereal Anguish.

Well put. You'll see that EP3 pushes on the cracks even harder, while introducing new strategies and new classes of gear to open up even more viable options.

Bringing my third group through now and even though they are far more potent than the others. I'm finding the same thing. I just have to stop caring about dying in the Underforge because it's going to happen no matter what you do. If you lead with Selen she will not win a stealth roll and she'll get slaughtered by some Spider Host or if you lead with Vraes a forged spider will walk right around him from a mile away and eat Vincent for lunch. This group on Nightmare completed everything else and had 3 deaths before entering the Underforge now I have 13. 2 of those I can say were my fault. I took a risk in combat and it didn't work out. The others are from unglomming and having somebody come out of no where and eat one of the squishy types. And I've got major armor on Vincent this time too. A few times I foolishly tried "retry turn" only to have the same thing happen again in which case I gave up and restored and ended up with like 3 deaths for one mob. I hate this. Next play through, got to Granthorn first before triggering the temple quest. There's some nice armor for sell there that will help in the temple.... really nice.

I dropped this hint in one of my posts in the ST2 RPG Kickstarter comments but I'm not sure if anyone noticed. fallen can correct me but I believe this is the best armor available pre Ep 3. It will certainly aid heroes substantially in their assault on the Underforge. Hoping to hear feedback on the Storm Brothers arc from you all now that Ep 3 has been released. Cheers to the Treses for their always awesome story telling! fallen Now that Ep 3 is out how about a Lanowar adventure for Christmas?

Lord Gansai - it is still the armor that I would chose for Vraes, hands down. But I like my tanks who don't mind dodge penalties and all the rest. I've got to find some time to cram Lanowar planning into the schedule.

I haven't been to Granthorn yet but I find the Bonesteel Armor as the best for Vraes so far. I love the +Crit. Made the Orcin Siege fun! Well, maybe not fun for Baron Tazzer...

I haven't been to Granthorn yet but I find the Bonesteel Armor as the best for Vraes so far. I love the +Crit. Made the Orcin Siege fun! Well, maybe not fun for Baron Tazzer... I just arrived in Granthorn for the first time and I prefer the Bonesteel Plate from the Vlotgar Braeys quest over anything available at Granthorn. Here's what's available in Granthorn: Name | Type | Armor Value | Penalty | Bonus | Price | Heavy Leathers | Light | 52 | -1 Stealth |
| 3257 | Lamellar Armor | Light | 56 | -1 Stealth |
| 3830 | Granthorn Leathers | Light | 49 |
| +120 Max HP, +1 Parry | 6272 | Mineflame Leathers | Light | 53 |
| +12 Fire Dmg, +10 All Resists | 6681 | Bone Cuirass | Heavy | 78 | -5 Evasion |
| 6720 | Articulated Bone Plate | Heavy | 86 | -5 Evasion |
| 7737 | Boneblood Plate | Heavy | 80 | -3 Evasion | +180 Max HP, +20 Max SP | 18240 |
And here's the Bonesteel Plate: Bonesteel Plate | Heavy | 84 | -3 Evasion | +80 Max HP, +3 Melee Accuracy, 2% Critical |
The only armor that one could argue is better is the Articulated Bone Plate, since the armor value is higher. However, for only +2 armor, you're saddled with an additional -2 evasion and you give up the awesome bonuses of the Bonesteel. Not to mention the cost in gold, as well... For me, Bonesteel wins hands down. I LOVE the Granthorn Leathers for a melee Selen, though. +120 HP is HUGE.

My Fyona (lvl 32) is still wearing her Bonesteel Plate. Love that armor, haven't found anything I like better yet!
