Bringing my third group through now and even though they are far more potent than the others. I'm finding the same thing. I just have to stop caring about dying in the Underforge because it's going to happen no matter what you do. If you lead with Selen she will not win a stealth roll and she'll get slaughtered by some Spider Host or if you lead with Vraes a forged spider will walk right around him from a mile away and eat Vincent for lunch. This group on Nightmare completed everything else and had 3 deaths before entering the Underforge now I have 13. 2 of those I can say were my fault. I took a risk in combat and it didn't work out. The others are from unglomming and having somebody come out of no where and eat one of the squishy types. And I've got major armor on Vincent this time too. A few times I foolishly tried "retry turn" only to have the same thing happen again in which case I gave up and restored and ended up with like 3 deaths for one mob. I hate this.

contributor - thanks for the feedback. We aren't getting much or any hate mail about it since we did the last round of balancing. Sorry that it bothers you much. As mentioned, it is a completely optional area in the game, so feel free to skip.

Areas like that are why I'm glad I play on Normal lol..I die there a lot with my groups too but since it's optional (not for me, I'm a completionist) I don't gripe. I like to have areas that are challenging as they always force you to refine and improve, though I empathize.

We'll continue to look at the balance in all areas. We've also made changes to the level thresholds in the last few releases, and changing some of the monster distributions. We do appreciate the feedback - you're helping us fine tune.

Yes, I know you made tweaks and I haven't been there in several patches (which I know one had some changes a bit ago) that I have not tried. I'll post again how my experience goes on Normal with this next group when I get there.

Sorry to rant a little there. Just sick of helplessly watching Vincet get killed by another Forged Spider. It's just frustrating, because really I don't know what I should be doing differently. I've got tons of armor stacked on him and yes I suppose I could just focus everyone on defense and armor, but then that's not going to be any fun to play because it will take forever just to kill anything off. fallen don't you and Cory Trese find the same thing in the UF or is there something I'm missing? I know you got groups through episode 1 on Nightmare with no deaths. What about episode 2? I am tempted to try hitting it at like level 17 or something and seeing if it's that much easier, because partly it just feels like everything is leveling up faster than I am.

contributor - did you do the Orcin first? What is your Stealth rating with Selen? What is Vincent carrying as his weapon and is he wearing +Armor gear? What buffs are you dropping on the group? Getting through E2 without deaths on Nightmare requires extreme precision and discipline in a group build, load out and gear. Combat in E1 is predictable and controlled. E2 is far from it. EDIT: What level are you?

I can say with confidence that I crush the Underforge on NM+ without dying with any non-Vincent build. I struggle a bit with Vincent and cannot guarantee a 0 death victory. EDIT: I made the maps, designed the monsters and placed the triggers for the rooms. So I'm playing with an advantage

I'm curious to know from other Nightmare or Brutal players. Are you finding that your death counts suddenly go way up in the Underforge and that your group just really loses it's edge there? If nobody else is experiencing that or only to a small degree then maybe just I'm doing something wrong.
It seems like part of the difficulty is that you characters start getting their skills maxed out and you can no longer stay ahead by pumping a weapon and strength or dexterity. I'm curious to know how that's going to play out. If monsters are going to keep getting harder to hit, it's going to be difficult to keep up with them.

contributor - one thing I read from your posts is that we spend Talent points pretty differently. It's very unlikely that I would have a group with a Power 10 Talent by the time I reach the UF.

I am not surprised that lesser forms would struggle with the perfection that is the Underforge of the Fallen God. Your tears of misery only serve to stoke the forges as they toil endlessly to create the perfect form. Muahaha!
If you enjoyed the challenges that we laid out in the Underforge then I can't wait to see how you react to the Storm Brothers plot line that is coming to a head in the next episode of Heroes of Steel! I promise though only parts of it will be as grueling as what Cory laid out in the sadistic dungeon that is the Fallen God's Underforge.

Awesome! Thanks for upping your pledge!
Let me know what you think of the Underforge once you get a chance to try it. Beware it is not for the novice or faint of heart!
