Transport Ships can mount Boarding Pods and Shuttles (for Ship combat) and Drop Pods / Landing Ships for Planetary Invasion.
Planetary Invasion consists of several phases. You'll have the option to Bombard, Land Expeditionary Forces or Full on Invade.
Xeno worlds will mount a stiff defense, including Radiation, anti-ship and anti-troop defenses.
As Choco says, you have to be careful with a bombing strategy -- that which kills Xenos also destroys quality.
There are troops up the tree, both as Ship Systems and Colony Upgrades. Transport Ships will be able to pick up and drop off Troop Units.
FDF, as you know from TA, aren't mobile -- they actually including housing and do a good bit to help the economy.
However, again, as you know from TA they're susceptible to corruption, xeno cults and bribing the local Star Traders.

Training video was actually VERY useful - I tried playing the game without the video and was as lost as a monkey sitting in a 747 cockpit. I did find it funny hearing fallen's pronunciation of the various factions though - I've been saying them in my head for so long that hearing it said differently is just weird Haven't read the instruction document though - that's next on my to do list. well not "next", but one of the things I will do sometime soonish

Curious if you guys have any plans for making a video tutorial for tbe finished game? Might be a fun project for one of us to try our hand at

Regardless of whether a video tutorial is included or not a good manual is a must. Something along the lines of the Star Trader's manual which is nicely referenced into sections.Perhaps even breaking the video down into more easily accessible bits.

Lesleyr - we agree and are continuing to work on expanding that GDoc toward a fully fledged manual. As you can see, it has a long way to go. One of our goals was to answer questions from the alpha testers on the forum and then port that text into the GDoc. Are there specific things you're stuck on that we could answer and add to the document?

I've been messing them all up. I have say that the pronunciation of caDAR only confirmed for me that they are a race of inbred frat-boys who are so fixated on their own torpedoes that they're completely ignorant of how far they are falling behind the other factions.

My brain's gonna stick with my pronunciation - I'm going to call it the Cat Dialect!
