As far as time spent to get to the top of the ladder it may be a bit long for casual gamers who play 2-15 mins tops, but for hard core lovers of the game, the current length of time (or longer) is fine. I feel if the ladder was shortened, having competing ladders offering competing incentives would be needed

genji - Texas Powers was the first ladder connector to come out of the factory. Others will follow for other factions, providing very different incentive, jobs, and rewards. They encourage you to link yourself to a faction and the type of work they are offering seems to pit you against other factions, helping you to make enemies and allies in the NBZ.

So, there is no way for you to actually be friendly with EVERY faction? I'm still trying to figure out a way

Like in my ShadowRun campaigns anyone who tries to be friendly with all will be a hero to none.
I think there is a place for a face or agent to walk a grey area between all the Factions. That will be very difficult for an advanced Hacker, Sniper or Sword.

jeffjway this brings to mind the old saying 'you can please some of the people some of the time. But you'll never please all of the people all of the time!'

The multiple tiers of CK will make for a different system of Faction interrelations.
In ST there are Factions and they're of 2 types in a single group. In CK there are Factions that exist as one of many types in many groups.
In ST the Factions are only in temporarily alliances and conflicts. In CK the Factions are, as groups, in both temporary and story-driven conflicts.
In ST the Factions do not care WHO you have an Alliance with. They value your status in society and your position as a Captain. In CK the Factions are VERY concerned about loyalty. This will play out as we go along.

You may move up in ranks, but you aren't in a static world. You may share enemies with your clients. but you'll draw attention from other corps. and there is always someone else, ready and willing to do whatever is necessary to take your job(s). ... and make you obsolete because you are cutting into business.

And, let's be honest... all business is cutting someone else's business.

Yes. All the better if a rival faction, or corp hires the lowest bidders to come after thorns in their side. we see it in our assassination jobs. (( might be wrong thread, but how do you gain your assassination targets as contacts? I've read { sorry for lack of citation} that you don't have to kill them. They don't attack you. I am sure, I am not the only one with a love/hate relationship with grinding. If I can network and gain another contact...its worth it for the rep and ¥ loss. Yes. OK. I just got a Dr Kamp v-Chip, but when I installed it, it told me I already had him.
I've checked, I don't. Is this a renaming of a previous contact or something?

@jeffway - unsure, but I can check. Do you have a lot of contacts already? It is possible that you have already had and then deleted Dr Kamp? LordofSyn - at this time, you must kill your target, its your only option (BETA). In the future, the variety of assassination targets will be expanded to include fighters, runners, and terrified (what you have today). The faction rivalry is something we are working on and will be expanding over the next couple of months of development.
