I was playing a game on tutorial on easy, and all of a sudden one turn my profit went from +300 to -600. I saw that this was because of a hike in maintenance, though my average morale is 9. Can someone advise? imgur.com/G2Ttu2Dimgur.com/M6ZJaYE

@lixx235 - you need to immediately clear those conflicts. Where are you in the tech tree, and what Treaties can you execute?

Maint 120% is pretty often fatal to your economy, just like 80% means you're on easy street.
Figure out what is causing that spike, and you'll solve it.
Could be conflicts, a pair of planets with 1 morale or a set of worlds way over quality -- or a combination of those.

All I can do for those conflicts are duel of assassins to get rid of solar war. I don't know the exact numbers- how does a solar war impact economy? How can I get myself out of that hole so I can scrounge up the 250 creds to attempt a duel of assassins? Cory Trese My lowest morale planet is at 7.

Stopping the carnage requires that you have enough money to spend on treaties as well as cover the shortfall for about 10-20 turns.
Try to get +5000 credits and never let it go below that, it should get you through most troubles.
Don't start too many projects whilst you sort it out, you can't afford to drain the treasury. If you go negative in cash, you can't build anything anymore. It is possible to escape this by demolishing ships and expensive buildings to make the income positive again, and wait a few turns, but it is difficult to arrange for the Xeno to stop attacking for the duration.
Check faction politics every turn. Try and reduce Trade bans and Solar Wars as soon as they start.

lixxx235 - playing "close to the wire" where you are near 0 is great in the early game. In the mid-game, I would highly suggest slowing down the upgrade rate for a little while until you accumulate a treasury. -600 for a few turns while you run a Treaty or find time to mitigate it by cleaning up colonies is not bad if you have $20K stashed. It's game over if you have $200, because now you are -$ and you can't take any steps to fix it.
