Currently playing an oldie game known as Kingdoms of Amalur: Recknoning.
Bad Thoughts:
1. Most of the quests are boring as heck. They are either: a. Kill something over there B. Fetch something over there, there and there. or C. Fetch something over there to kill something over here. 2. In the sorcery tree there is an ability to summon an undead soldier. Sadly, for some darn reason, your pet gets hit by .. well ... YOU ... and turns against you (something not supposed to be possible unless you select a specific setting). This makes you a CRIMINAL as you're marked as trying to commit murder for hitting your undead pet. (shrug). The entire ability line is wasted because of this problem. 3. You ... CANNOT ... jump! Son of a gun! I hate that! 4. Repetitive monsters. You will fight bogarts at lvl 1 and bogarts at lvl 40. 5. Bosses have the same skins and looks as normal monsters. 6. Caves and Dungeons mostly look the same (Not the same dungeon, just the same look) regardless of what land or geography you're at. 7, You will get duplicate items in inventory which do not dissappear and can't be removed. Pain in the arse.
Good Thoughts: 1. Very good involving storyline. 2. Lore lore ... and MORE lore! 3. Good general gameplay. There are finishing moves depending on the monster in question and weapon you're using. Plus these finishing moves give XP! 4. Generally great abilities for your weapons. 5. Generally enjoyable skill trees. 6. Generally involving dialogue. 7. You can respect your character at ANY moment. Want to change from warrior to a sorcerer? Go right ahead.
Good or Bad, I can't tell. 1. The crafting system depends a lot on dropped items 2. Most of the time, by the time you can actually make the armor set you want, you have killed your way to the top lvl of the area in question. Thus, the armor you build won't be awesome, just adequate. 3. In contradiction to #2, when you have enough Sagecraft and Blacksmithing, you can build an armor set that praticaly makes you immune to damage. (I did a full armor set of 30 percent extra armor PER PIECE and 2 hp regeneration per second PER PIECE and 20 percent extra damage PER PIECE. I got bored very quickly. Since we wear: Helmet, Chestpiece, Gauntlets, Leggings, and shoes. That is a ton of extra damage, health regeneration and armor. I also did a 20 percent health, 2 health regen, 30 percent armor PER PIECE, armor set that made me a walking goliath. I could leave my toon surrounded by enemies, eat, come back, and he would still be there)

I've been on a simple mobile kick lately. Barrage; a tank wars/artillery duel type game, a less sophisticated version of Armored Strike. Atomic Bomber, a Time Pilot style 2D flight shooter where you can fly as a nuclear capable strike fighter or an A10 Warthog attack plane. Simple but with a few realistic nods, such as vintage SAM systems natures as semi active radar guided weapons- kill the guidance radar and the missile won't home in.

Any one heard of/tried Beyond Good and Evil. I love that game soooo much. For it's day, (must have played it on it's second round, about 10 years ago), the graphics were WELL before their time. Cartoony looking, with elements of arcade, stealth, rpg, (a bit like tomb raider meets Metal Gear Solid, and in places, VERY tense.

slayernz. I was going to show some pics of Beyond Good and Evil, but Photobucket is down for maintenance. Have you seen the animated Photobucket maintenance message? If not, it's a black and white shot, of a kitten, hanging by it's claws, from the edge of a bedspread. It's brilliant. I've screenshot it, and will post once Photobucket's back online. Oh. Just to mention. Beyond Good and Evil's main character was called Jade, and was a photographer by trade. You actually had to take photographs within the game, to earn money, so you could buy and upgrade stuff. Never known that in a game before. Cool.

rabidbite : I really had a great time with Amalur but I agree with you on the bad side. Each time I wanted to go on a quest I thought :" damn ! Once again I have to go there and there killing the exact same enemies that I killed just 2 minutes ago..." As I almost never play magic users in video games, I didn't realize the problem of summoned pet. Usually playing magic users is a lot less fun to me (except Vincent in HoS ) because of that kind of problem I prefer playing them in good old pen and paper games

I just finished Fallout 3 two days ago and I play Fallout : New Vegas since. I love what Bethesda has done with the license (I played both 1 and 2 on pc and got the tactics game recently and that license is awesome IMO).

That's why I'm now so BALD. Anyway. No more derails from me. That's the Sheep's job.

The sheep would tell you that derailing is the duty of all and not a privilege of some (I think he would. Anyway I'm telling it ) so please, do derail

Cartoony looking, with elements of arcade, stealth, rpg, (a bit like tomb raider meets Metal Gear Solid, and in places, VERY tense. I haven't heard of it or I think I might have forgotten about it. I know that "Beyond Earth", the new Civilization game, is Civilization 5 all over again; with only 1 cinematic, no story line (again), an technological evolution web that does not give you WMDs. There are Kaiju monsters which you get only if you go heavily into covert operations. In short, they are in the branch that you, as a builder, probably won't use ... ever. I simply aren't impress with the game. At least the mods are still allowed. I bet user mods fix a lot of the game issues. rabid
