I didn't think Bioshock Infinite was one of the best FPSes ever, but I did like the philosophy behind the storyline and the occasional uncomfortable situation it put you in (the jungle wedding comes to mind). I don't like horror much, but I might have to give this FEAR a try.

Alright, sat down this morning and finished FEAR expansion: Extraction Point, on Extreme Difficulty. There were a few changes to the game, 1 new grenade type (really fun one too), 1 new weapon and at least 3 new enemy types that are worth the effort. Not sure I'll do the other FEAR titles just yet. Kinda done with it for now. The level monotony didn't change. The A.I. was, as always, dastardly. On to the other games. updated gaming list on initial post rabid

The characters do irritate me sometimes, Agnes especially. They're a little odd, to say the least. The combat system is so awesome, though. I also love the job system. I just wish that you got the jobs in a different order. There isn't a lot of job synergy early on in my opinion. Later in the game you can really break things with how some of the jobs go together. rabidbite FEAR is one of my favorite FPS games of all time. Great story. Great AI. Some of the level designs were repetetive or boring, but otherwise amazing. My problem with FEAR is simple. I played Bioshock Infinite before FEAR. With all my respects to FEAR, Bioshock: Infinite is ... by far ... one of the greatest FPS I have ever played. The world immersion is magnificent. The amount of effort put into that game, with history, music numbers, logical placement of particle effects, complex story, complex personalities for the characters involved, the Rail system (which is innovative and wonderful), the ability to wear different style clothes for different abilities, the magnificent Disney style animation for Elizabeth .... Amazing. So, FEAR, with its lame arse graphics, monotonous levels, and (in comparison to Bioshock) merely above average story cannot compare. It can't even get close. YET, FEAR's combat A.I. is better than Bioshock: Infinite's A.I. In fact, I think its better by leaps and bounds. rabid I know this is gonna sound like nostalgia syndrome, but look at the age difference between the two games. You are talking of the first FEAR, right? That is one Hell of an age gap. In its day FEAR's graphics were amazing. I still totally agree that the level design was very lackluster. It wasn't perfect in any sense of the word. It is an excellent game though. I have yet to play any Bioshock past the first. I've heard great things about Infinite. I saw it very cheap and almost picked it up on impulse, but I'm not sure if I'd like it or not. One of my big questions about the game is: Does the resource for your powers regenerate over time in this one or is it still static and restored via consumables? Not a deal breaker but I'm curious.

Haha. I agree. That's why I was very specific: My problem with FEAR is that I played Bioshock: Infinite first. Everything i say about it is in reference to Bioshock: Infinite ... which as you've pointed out came many years after FEAR #1.
Yes, all bioshocks (I think) require consumables to restore abilities. Thus, managing your abilities is important.
Bioshock 2 is actually better than Bioshock 1 in my opinion, gameplay and story wise. It is also VERY creepy.
Bioshock:Infinite Has innovative gameplay level design, but what makes it so magnificent is, in a word, story. The powerful controversial issues of racism and bigotry. Elizabeth will hopefully touch you. The evolution of that one character is magnificent. The slow image changes, from pristine wide eyed innocence to .... Well, I won't spoil it.
Also, I did not feel that FEAR allowed for consistent MELEE combat(At least in extreme difficulty), something I truly enjoy doing. The instant 1 person goes down in FEAR, all the others automatically notice you and begin evasion tactics while having almost perfect accuracy.
In Bioshock: Infinite, once I was able to get some of the mechanics down, MELEE combat became feasible.Hell, I adored it. Except with Handymen. Those are nightmare fights that employed a lot of dodging, aiming, thoughtful understanding of my surroundings, etc. Tough... and I mean ... TOUGH fights. Handyman fights on HARD are tougher than the most difficult fight in FEAR, on Extreme. Plus, they involve a lot more dynamic movement.
Until you get the darn Freeze shield.... That thing is ridiculously powerful and shouldn't exist.

I haven't played on a console for months, and haven't played consistently for a year or more. I tried to Mass Effect 3 over winter, but just wasn't inspired by it... maybe in part due to bad things I heard about the ending.
This talk of bioshock infinite has me considering that next. One thing i liked about the first two in the Bioshock series was the creepiness of the environment, so I've avoided infinite up to now because it seems so airy. I also want to give Assassin's Creed a whirl.
Recently, I played a bunch of Pixel Dungeon. I've got a Gladiator on level 20 and I need to make a run at the final boss. I've got a decent chance with this one.

Infinite's expansions, the ones set in Rapture, ... well .... those are creepy. rabid

Right Rabid. What I got from your previous post was that, while not creepy, Bioshock Infinite is still an awesome game. A game doesn't have to be creepy for me to enjoy it. I do, however, have a preference for games with a darker tone, like HoS.

It is what got me attracted to FEAR in the first place: ghosts, psychotic spirit. rabid

Im playing some assassins creed black flag which is an awesome game and might be better than the second assassins creed which in my opinion is the best but i am still deciding which one is better. I am also thinking about giving pixel dungeon another try as a mage. I dont really have a lot of games although i want to get elder scrolls online and try it out.

I haven't played my PC games for a while as I never replaced the motherboard when it gave up recently. So at the moment, I'm playing: 3DS: Scribblenauts Unlimited PHONE: All TB, Trials Frontier, Pixel Dungeon and a bunch of tower defence games Xbox 360: Too many to mention, but just bought all three Mass Effect games and playing through the first one. Enjoying it immensely, prospecting planets etc. Play Halo 3, Reach and 4 a lot in MP. Also play Sacred 2 all the time. The best 'Diablo' clone in my opinion. EDIT: Add Xcom Enemy Within to this list as of just now Fan wise, I'm well into the lore of Assassin's Creed, The Elder Scrolls, Risen, Gothic and many other RPGs. Also Silent Hill, I've played them to death right from the start, and Tom Clancy games (Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon. The first Ghost Recon is still the best!) I'm a huge retro gamer too... If it's Commodore 64 related, I'm the guy to talk to. I've been a fan of it for about 25 years! Finally, I've always loved JRPGs... Blue Dragon, the stunning Lost Odyssey, Final Fantasy etc.

Incidentally, I think Bioshock Infinite is massively overrated. The gun play is generic, the level design is tedious, and the über-violence (especially with thr melee attacks) juxtaposes the general aesthetic in a way that is ill-fitting and comical and is one of those deliberate juxtapositions that simply doesn't work. Also, everything that was shown in the trailer failed to emerge - the big-daddy style constant threat is only existent in set pieces, and thr girl never uses any realtime powers as shown in the supposed 'gameplay trailer'. The world is far more linear too, as again the trailer implied open world with the skyhooks, which exist now only as a novelty and are basically irrelevant. It looks nice, the voice acting is ok, but as a Bioshock title it falls down spectacularly to the first one, and even falls short of the second. The main star of bioshock is the world, and the world here is boring. The fact they chose to set the DLC in Rapture screams volumes as far as I'm concerned too. Massive disappointment. Played through once on Hard and never touched it again.
As for Thief [4]... Forget it. Play Dishonored instead. Seriously, you can get the GotY edition dead cheap, and not only is it a superior Thief experience to the actual official sequel, it's also an excellent game in it's own right. As of right now, it's the definitive first-person stealth action exploration game. Utterly superb.

WHAAAATT!? See? Opinions vary even when a game is as good as this one is. I have been playing games from Commodore 64 up. I have a diametrically opposed view to yours. We shall agree to disagree, sir. Well, there you have it folks. 2 different opinions from two heavy gamers. One crucifies the game, the other exalts it. Your money, your time to decide if its worth the trouble. Me, I buy them VERY cheap in case I dislike something. Heck, I don't like Left 4 Dead, and its supposed to be good. Question: Have you ever played Half-Life, Half-Life2 franchise games? What did you think of them? rabid
