Are the Xeno Mass Driver ships considered Fighters? Yes they are, but the Xeno Carrier AI was never very good, so that is hidden right now. So they're fighters with extra HP and no repairs. I hope to fix that someday soon but we need ... a) better programmers b) more artwork c) lots of balancing math =)

Xenos have 3 basic types of ships. (Please correct me if there are more. But I haven't seen them as yet. Even on hard with level 50 Dark Terror) Mass driver. This is an in-close combat ship. Capable of establishing a colony. Missile ship. Designed for long range combat. Torpedoes and colony invasion. Colony ship. These have a simple gun attack and can colonize or invade planets. Xenos have 4 basic types of ships. - Colony Ship: these have short range gun attack, and seek out new worlds to Colonize. - World Killer: these ships have a short range gun attack, and seek to invade player worlds. - Missile Boat: these ships have a long range, planet-skipping hyperwarp torpedo attack. - Gun Boat: these ships have a powerful short range attack, and form the bulk of battle lines. The pleasure of being corrected ;> I lumped the worldkiller class in with the mass driver ships. But only because the design is very similar and they are both "close range" ships. I have seen the Xeno colonize worlds with a worldkiller, a mass driver and 3 times with their missile ships. I have seen their colony ships but have yet to see them colonize aplanet using one... usually its one of the other ships....

The game code doesn't support Xeno Colonies being built with anything other than a Colony Ship. However, the Colony Ship is consumed, and moves quiet fast -- so you probably just didn't see it arrive and transform into a Colony. World killer ships can colonize just like colony ships no wait colony ships can bombard just like world killer ships I don't think that is how it works, but I will test. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the AI =)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the AI =) I have only seen World Killers attack my Colonies. I can see the confusion, as the sprites for Colony Ships and World Killers look alike.

i've seen it before and i did check but only when they did not know about any other planets. Then colony ships act like world killers that can also colonize

Just like the Military Transports a player can build, it is possible to use a single ship to remove the Xeno from a particular planet and then colonize that planet. It makes sense that the Xeno would killer class ships should have the capability of attacking colonies and making them.
There has been occasion where I have caught and destroyed a Xeno colony ship, or completely surrounded a Xeno colony ship to prevent them from colonization, only to watch the world killer ship that I let by or didn't focus on destroying colonize a planet. Since I usually play on my tablet, the designs for the Xeno colony ships and world killer ships are obviously different.
The quickest map to check this on would be the Rinze 32x32 with 30 worlds, small map that is available on both free and elite versions. The randomizer tends to place the Xeno in the bottom right hand corner giving them fast access to the 2 planets at 15:28 and 16:29. Which they will attempt to colonize one of those 2 spots for their 4th world around turn 3 or 4.

I disagree, but I won't argue -- in my opinion, Colony Ships can not invade -- only colonize.
I am working on adding details about each Political event to the guide. Already have comprehensive economic details in there.

Already have comprehensive economic details in there. I think it might be a relational thing. I have built military transports withouta colony module, and have kept the create colony training option installed. It is also possibly to build a transport ship that has a colony module and drop ships so applying both invade and colonize abilities in 1 ship. As for Xeno colony ships, i have seen them colonize and attack ships, but never attack planets. Just as the World killers can attack ships, worlds and colonize a world. (unless there has been a change to that ship class)

They only do it when they can't colonize and only specific AI do it
