In games I always try to learn the basics then I do something to prove to myself that I am skilled in it. In skyrim it was obvious that I had to one hit kill alduin. Can anyone think of something for me to do? Did you see this thread? Might be of interest to read and comment! startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/13836/new-st-meta?page=3

Here's a challenge that may or may not provoke you to throw your device across the room / out the window: On as high a difficulty setting as you can manage, earn the Independent Captain award and the Clan/Syndicate Hero awards, in that order. (I.e., get -151 rep with all 6 factions first, then get +151 rep with all 6 factions.) So far I've managed to do this on Hard, and I think I've figured out a strategy to do it on Crazy (though haven't tried it yet). To achieve this, you need to plan ahead, since on higher difficulty settings you have to get your captain in shape before you start taking a reputation plunge, otherwise the bounty hunters and military ships will kill you pretty quickly. Also, you need to figure out how to survive while being banned from every star dock, palace, and exchange on every faction planet. And how to regain your rep afterwards in spite of that. This is ridiculously easy on impossible difficulty as well. When you become unbeatable, which isn't that hard, spy and solar wars are enough to regain the reputation you have lost. Also, you can just surrender to Smugglers to get to prison and eliminate all but 5 negative reputation with the faction. I have actually completed this challenge with two wanted flags on impossible difficulty.

Hmm... didn't know about the surrendering to Smugglers trick. Haha! Now I'm gonna hafta dream up a new way of exploiting the game by incurring tons of negative rep and erase them overnight with a Smuggler ship. LOL! (But having said that... isn't there a danger of being executed if your negative rep is too big? Or it's impossible to get executed by a Smuggler ship?)
But "When you become unbeatable"... that's a big if, esp. on impossible difficulty! At least, I haven't figured out a way to survive on Impossible yet.

Smuggler ship has these traits: Rep > -15: Peace -15 to - 30: Loot < - 30: Prison Smuggler ships shouldn't be able to execute you, since they don't have the authority to do it. As for the unbeatability, it is not too hard to build a captain that dominates the game so much that you need to do crazy stuff to make it interesting. The only real hard thing is surviving the beginning phase.

True, once you get past the beginning stage of the game, if you've been building your captain's stats correctly, it should be more-or-less smooth sailing from there. But still... once in a while nasty things still do happen. Like that promising Crazy captain I had a while ago when I was still learning how to survive on Crazy, he made it to lvl 15 or so, and was doing well, finally have enough credits to weather financial troubles, got a good ship and working his way up, and then suddenly during a routine contract an insanely-overpowered Alien ship showed up out of nowhere and blasted him to bits.
Since that time I'd made sure to keep alien-hunting in mind when building my captains, 'cos you just never know when those things suddenly show up at your door without any warning.

I don't know, even on impossible difficulty I don't meet aliens that often, and I can't remember the last time I met one when I was under lv 30.

Here's a challenge: no buying of WF allowed. You have to pirate it from others or Harvest it from planets.
I am currently beginning a new game to test this feasability.

It's really hard of a challenge, gotta say... But still, luxury rations are allowed, aren't they?

I tried something similar once, but my challenge wasn't simply "you can't buy W-F", it was "you can't land on urban zones or surrender to anyone". As you can imagine, I didn't last long.

I wonder if it's possible to have high enough strength / intimidate that you can actually get by without ever having any fuel in your tank. When the crew mutinies just hold them off (or give in and lose all your money -- which is not a problem if you only have $0 to begin with, since 50% of $0 is still $0, yet they seem to get pretty happy about the fact that they earned 50% of $0 and stop threatening the captain, at least for the time being).

That bug badly needs fixing, so that they shunt you out the airlock if you offer them 50% of zero.
