Let's see favorites: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Planetes, Gundam (all of them), ghost in the shell (movie I and stc I & II), Princess Mononoke and Nausica in the Valley of the wind (deeper and more political ghibli movies)
Not Japanese, but Avatar the last Airbender and Legend of Korra
And Then a favorite of favorites: Gundam Seed + Seed Destiny. I loved how these two went beyond the standard gundam formula and explored the social/political/moral implications of human genetic engineer/ neo-eugenics as well as ptsd, terrorism, and impact on civillians. Imo these two are some of the deepest mecha anime ever made.

Just remembered another classic, Adventures of Kotetsu. Favorite line,
"Pardon me for being so forward, but it seems a demon has possessed your trousers" (the male character had a huge boner after meeting a beautiful witch)

Officer Genious, one day many years ago, I was hunting the back rows of my favorite movie store at the mall looking at all the anime on VHS. Kotetsu caught my eye and after reading the back I decided to buy it. Fell in love with it and all the jokes, the animation was nice to, the voice accents of the characters seemed strange but I loved it. A teenage British samurai. Sad thing is only the two episodes were ever made. Japanese anime was still just coming to America. BTW, anyone remember the animated movie Light Years?

Robotech changed every ones lives, it gave us Minmei, the Bridge Bunnies, and Old Sourpuss. What??? Robotech gave us rabidbite and slayernz???   |

Look, I would be the first to paint a Varitech like a rabbit or a goat. I'm pretty sure Ntsheep would add pepsi cans and mutton ... but I can't quite see how Robotech gave us Slayernz. I'm not an enigma - we've already had an image about that   I for one would understand how I fit into Robotech except for the sad fact I haven't seen any episodes yet. It's definitely on my list of things to watch, but heck, I'm still only on season 2 of Korra, and that isn't even genuine Anime |
