Yuri on Ice is definitely pretty solid. It really hits it by ep. 3 imo.

Be warned though sheep, although the story and production values of Yuri on Ice get good marks, it gets pretty gay by ep 6. I'll keep watching, but it's iffy for many straight male sensibilities.

I was just giving the warning since your earlier protests about the fan girling over the guys. (Sorry I don't know spoiler tags, not sure if this warrants it though.) One of the weak points imo is the lack of self conflict over the BL development. Never met a gay person to be free from self doubt so much about the "freeing life change" while in process. They kinda gloss over his crush on his would be boyhood GF (GF is now married to someone else) and idolization of Victor into straight BL romance, I mean WTH, that's a bit naive to leave that so lightly touched. It's an overly idealized trap straight romances fall into as well. Not to mention it's a lot codependant atm too, yet to be seen if independant strength and self-assurance comes about. The main weakness for me, with no BL interests, is a lack of ensemble relationship developments so far, they're mostly set besides the love triangle. Plus Christophe [nigh] climaxing at the end of his routines is a gross fan service imo. Those personal issues aside it is pretty well done sports anime/bl romance. As long as the excessive style fan servicing stays infrequent enough it'll remain interesting, but if the BL takes over completely from the rest I'll lose my desire to watch. Edit: Ok, the hugging bit at the end of the Russian competition on ep 9 was hilarious! |

Phantom: Requiem of the Phantom. 24 episodes I believe. Assassins, drama.
English dub sounds better in my opinion. Most of the show takes place in the US with only one Japanese guy. Badass combat, and scenes that made me cry.
