As an Explorer, I fly through a LOT of red space and started with a decent Pilot skill. Raising Intimidate up from 1 seemed to go a long way. Also, I never really documented fuel consumption. I'm totally anecdotal on this one.
Piles of records? Do you mean that more records are available at the exchange for merchants to buy up and sell to boost rep with factions? Or is it that merchants get better pricing when they have records in their holds (like how records in the hold is supposed to help with exploration).
I think what folks are thinking of regarding merchants is the three-way trading (slaves/sugar/rum) from colonial times translated to space opera: metal/food/goods/ships
Reselling ships ought also be a way to generate profit. If I sell a sweet ship on a world with a crappy stardock, I ought to do better than I would on an urban Cadar world where my ship is of average quality. Of course, you need to be able to take a space-bus to dry dock where your other ship is located...

I think Cory is talking about 'economic records', meaning information about Exchange prices. He is not here talking about the tradeable item called Records. If you can trade in ships then why not also trade in Upgrades, Torps, Barrage Guns, Armour, Sails, Engines .... but this can affect game balance badly - that sometimes happens in other games - so proceed with caution.

If economic records aren't 'Records' please call them something else! Data? Information? Files?
I'm so confused. I'm going to go out and scuttle some pirates to clear my head.

oldalchemist -- they are "Records" in the sense that they appear into your Cargo Hold with a Toast saying "Trade Records Created" or "Officers have deposited Trade Records." These trade records are normal records with a quality bump for non-local sales.

Trading and Smuggling are both now fantastic after the major economy tweaks. Both roles are fun to play and in keeping with the storyline for these character types. Great job Cory!

So the ability creates bonus actual records for you to sell or use as you see fit?
So my captain is data-mining his own customers and selling that information to other customers?
Quick question: does selling records generate economic records? If so, I'm going to start up a merchant captain named Web2.0 and buy the quadrant!

I had a trader I was doing well with, I would run from my negative action enemies. One time this didn't work and mt ship was getting pounded. So I swallowed my pride, kissed my inventory goodbye, and hit the surrender. I apparently was executed after being captured. So, did the 1 life point hit I took during combat changed over to 10 damage somehow?

oldalchemistBuying and selling Records does now generate extra Records for Merchants and Smugglers (in specific circumstance that I haven't figured out yet). But the effect gets smaller on each buy/sell cycle, so it's not a Perpetual Infinite Record Generator. havocmeWere you a hated criminal with the Faction you surrendered to, i.e. very negative Rep with them?

spike -- I think that is probably a bit of a bug. The game should be at least smart enough to not give you more records for the "buy-sell-buy-sell" cycle. Of course, I didn't think of doing that so there are no protections in v3.6.0 oldalchemist -- The idea is that the Captain's Crew is taking careful notes in the Exchange and during trades -- "Ah, the Rychart Palace is looking for trade records about Cadar ... a Trade War brewing? The spies on De Valtos Prime would love to hear about this ..."

That makes perfect sense: Economic Surveillance = Economic Records.

Yea, about -100 or so. I thought surrender was always prison, not a death sentence. If I know I am that hated and get bagged like that again, might as well fight to the death. Unless the first move of surrender garuntees prison? As in, I don't try to run, they don't shoot?

The issue is that the Captain would KNOW that he was risking death on his negotiation, intimidation and charisma statistic.
I'm an idiot for not having a prompt, confirmation or something going on here.

- Assassination Bounty Hunters are sent starting at -25. - Skilled Assassination Bounty Hunters are sent starting at -35. - Elite Assassination Bounty Hunters are sent starting at -55 (but are turned OFF now, due to complaints)
- Military Officers will execute anyone known as a Notorious Terrorist. Andrew said he was going to draw a sweet image of the Captain getting ejected out an airlock.
