rabidbite and tenbsmithIf you want to do a book reading club. You should probably focus on new realeases. I only buy ebooks now. So some of the ones i mentioned actually made it there. I.e. a.c. crispin starbridge series. Was pleasantly surprised. If you have a smartphone you can d/l the amazon kindle app. At first i would focus on the new free / low cost ones to sort out the authors skill. I tend to buy the good books after the intro books if i like them. What do you guys think? Crimson

Will let you know how it goes. Crimson I just read Allegiant, the third part of the Divergent trilogy. I won't provide spoilers. On the other hand, I feel that if I don't type the following, I will be doing a disservice. Wow... its ... bad. The big secret: lame and anticlimactic. The resolution: laughable. The points of views: confusing. Its nowhere near the quality of the first two books. rabid

I just finished reading Armor. Man, that was a rollercoaster ride! Thank you to everyone who suggested it. Now I'm giving it to my husband to read.

Just finished the first one. It was pretty interesting as a stand alone book.
Killed off too many of the characters she supposedly cared about. I can see this going down the toilet the same way hunger games series of books did.
Probably won't go further the story is already starting to unravel. Definately won't be reading the 3rd book.
Ill look for a better author.

I looked for Armor at my local used book store, but they don't have it. Amazon has it used at a reasonable price.
The third book of the Hunger Games was pretty lame. By the time I decided that, I was far enough in that I read through to the end, but I don't recommend it. Divergent... maybe just the first book.
I recently read The Postman by David Brin and highly recommend that post-apocalyptic read.

I've slowly digitized my entire book collection and have, just as slowly, sold off a lot of the hard copies. Cobra books were among these. I especially liked the Deed of Parksenarion. Its one of those stories that I wish would not end. I want to read more of Parks. I want to see what other adventures she went on. At the same time, I am in awe of Elizabeth Moon because she ended the books in such a manner that left me wanting more and more and MORE. I should write an Amazon review on it and explain why that need for more, makes the book series 5 stars. I got emotionally invested in Parksenarion. Sassinak was interesting, but I read it such a long time ago that I don't remember the details except female captain, space battle armor, fights. Think I'll read Armor again. Its a freaking good book. rabid

They deal with a lot of the other characters from the first series, with Paks making a few cameo appearances.

Yup, I believe she's at 4 in the 'new insertion' into the land of Paksenarrion- still one of my favorites to read.
I loved Joe Abercrombie First Law and the sequels... Loved the first 2 Divergent books, and will echo Rabid's review of number 3- disappointing. On the other hand, I loved all the Hunger Games books, and the movies so far have been pretty spot-on for casting, plot, and even some dialogue.
I have a few recommends for people for great books, partly because it's newly worked ways to approach new themes, and partly for the excellent read. Jacqueline Carey "Banewreaker" series, 2 books which basically explore the theme of 'What if you're the epic villain/evil god of an epic tale, but you never really thought of yourself that way?'. The other series is "The Abhorsen Trilogy" by Garth Nix. Very very entertaining.

Garth Nix is an excellent sci-fi/fantasy writer, Abhorsen in particular. Keys to the Kingdom are great as well, but written for a slightly younger audience - A Confusion of Princes is also a very good sci-fi book, and The Ragwitch is great fantasy horror.

I recently read The Postman by David Brin and highly recommend that post-apocalyptic read. That's a good book. The movie, The Postman, might have the same name but is not about the book at all. If I compare it to the book, the movie sucks. If I don't compare it to the book, it was generally ok. Though the ending is weird. On a side note: I've always found it fascinating how a single change in a sentence conveys different feelings. For example, let's consider a negative critique like 'Pain In The Ass' (PITA). If we write: You're a PITA. It can be ambiguously hostile or even playful. It requires additional words to signify the difference. If we write: You're my PITA. It provides a sense of territorial ownership with endearing tones. One single word changes the entire feel and meaning of an expression. I freaking love that. rabid
