I had a similar situation, except my level 17 navigator/commander/smuggler and my level 16 doctor/explorer/spy bit the bullet (along with a whole heap of other valuable crew) while trying to snap screenshots. It was pretty depressing.
Don't hold me to this, but I think that empty space below the ships on the combat screen is where we will see fighters when they are implemented. As such, it's not really wasted space, it's more of a place holder for now.

Ah, well then, my bad. I guess I should have known it would have been found, work and vacations been keeping me too busy fallen, might I ask if there is a known bug about selling looted goods? I've got a captain that looted some refined ore and refined metals and, anytime I try to sell them, my game crashes. If this is not a known bug, I'll write up a full report and post it in a new thread.

fallen - Yeah, my bad. I initially thought that there was no info being reported due to just scanning the messages. When grabbing screenshots for this, I noticed that everything was out of order. Feel free to close/delete this thread! grävling - Yup, one of the perks of living in South Korea is that I get access to all the cool Korean tech before it hits foreign shores. I've been a fan of LG appliances/phones for a while now, they tend to be so much better than Samsung stuff. This was a particularly nice time to buy the G6 because, since the G5 was a bit of a flop, the latest galaxy-bomb drama drove Samsung's market presence back a bit, and LG really, really wants the G6 to be a success, they ran a promotion where the first 40,000 people to buy G6s could purchase a Nescafe Dolce Gusto (basically a nice-ish capsule coffee machine) for ~~5USD. My wife and I got one each, one for us and one for my sister-in-law. While it will never replace my handmill and aeorpress, having a capsule coffee machine will be nice for when I just want a quick cup of coffee.

I have a couple level 17 crew members that are soldiers (making them level 11 soldiers) and any time I try to choose their job skills, my app crashes to home. I'm guessing this is due to some kind of job skill causing an error.

imgur.com/gallery/b5BhMSo, looking at these two (hopefully, I'm phone posting) screenshots you can see that my post-combat info is garbled and not displaying properly. Scrolling through all of the post-combat pop ups just gave me various cargo hold, pressing crew, or water fuel related info. For the record, I: Looted cargo Took WF Used the medical ward talent (doctor) Used the battle repair talent (crew dog) As a total aside, I just got an LG G6 and it is an absolutely bitching phone.

I'm at work, but as soon as I get off I'll get my captain back up and try to go pick some fights. Wish me luck! I'm going to be really sad if I lose her!

This is more than likely a known issue, but it has been something that I've been noticing a lot with my blammo merchant build. When you make use of some of the post-combat (or even pre-combat) talents like expert scavenger and the pirate talent terrifying extortion (?? the one where you scare a merchant into dropping his/her cargo), you don't actually get info on what it has done. I actually thought the terrifying extortion talent was broken until I started checking my cargo after using it.
I know there is limited screen real-estate, but could we have some kind of notice?

I'm currently reading The Dispossessed, a book about Shevek, a researcher from Urras. Sometime in the future, people have colonized Anterras and Urras, which are a planet/moon pair in Tau Ceti. Anterras can basically be summed up as a totally capitalist planet, while Urras is a total anarchist planet. Shevek is a theoretical physicist from Urras who got invited to Anterras to be a professor, and the book follows him.
Chapter 1 starts with Shevek arriving on Anterras and Chapter 2 starts with Shevek's childhood on Urras. Each even chapter thereafter builds on the Anterras story, while each odd chapter builds on Shevek's childhood up to him arriving on Anterras.
The book is really interesting in how we see two totally antagonistic societies that pretty much treat each other as enemies melding through Shevek. For instance, the Urras colonists do not use the possessive form at all (e.g. my watch) and instead use collective language (e.g. the watch that I am using). I'm only about half-way through it, but so far each planet is portrayed as having ups and downs. In fact, I'd go so far as to say Anterras (capitalism) is kind of portrayed as a system where the outliers (extremely smart, extremely lucky, etc.) of society thrive and the rest tend to either tread water or drown, and Urras (anarchy) is shown as an overly idealistic society where the majority rule but nothing can ever really get done.

I posted these template ideas in my merchant thread, but thought I'd share 'em here too just in case people find them helpful. These are both geared for merchants and, at least for me, have been tested and proved successful all the way up to impossible. Long HaulerI named this template Long Hauler because it is geared more towards the later game, sacrificing a bit of safety in the early game in order to give you a good amount of skills and attributes for later play. Priorities are: - Skills
- Attributes
- Ship
- Experience
- Contacts
For skills I put 4 points into command and intimidate, 5 points into navigation, and 10 points into negotiate. For attributes I put strength and quickness at 15, wisdom and resilience at 20, and fortitude and charisma at 26. For ship I choose the Frontier Liner. For experience I select merchant. (duh!) For contacts I select a prince. Basically, this template is built to allow your captain to trade, be relatively tough in order to avoid dying due to accident/the occasional torpedo hit, and have a good middle-of-the road trading ship that is very upgradable. The only thing I'd recommend for you to do is get at least one passenger cabin ASAP as the prince likes to give out escorting missions and, at least in my opinion, escort missions pay top dollar. Clutch PopperAs a counter-point to Long Hauler, the Clutch Popper is designed to give you a smoother start but sacrifice a little late game staying power. Priorities are: - Skills
- Attributes
- Ship
- Experience
- Contacts
For experience I select merchant. (duh!) For attributes I put strength and quickness at 15, wisdom and resilience at 20, and fortitude and charisma at 26. For ship I choose the Frontier Liner. For skills I put 1 point into command and intimidate and 2 points into negotiate. For contacts I select a prince. As I said, you are sacrificing some of your late game oomph (the skills) for a lot of extra help in the beginning. By having experience at priority A you will start at level 6, your officers at level 3, and your crew at level 2. This gives you a lot of extra skills for your ship as a whole, and also allows you to get some much needed job levels (like maybe doctor and repair) on a few of your officers.

Added two template suggestions for aspiring merchants. As always, if anyone has any criticism, ideas, or templates of their own, speak up!

A special kind of merchant. I like to think that poor Paula was picked on a bit as a kid so she takes it out on the bullies in the sector!

Bring 'em on is all I can say. So far, nothing has been able to withstand the dreaded storm 'o death that Paula Blieth has been vomiting at extreme range. I've not lost a single crew member to combat death and I'm already up at level 8 or so after starting at level 2. Killed me a whole bucket load of pirates and xenos, always being sure to loot all the spice I can get my hands on!
