firstly, I'm glad you're ok. Secondly, what a 7k post. You made it an interesting read as you still have a way with words. Damn physics has a way of making everyone look like an uneducated peasant. Like falling up stairs, tripping on cheap outside carpet that is laid flat, or while being careful on ice.

@contributor ST is unique to me in a lot of ways. Randomness is pleasing to me, especially the random number generation it uses. Just because that Cadar bounty hunter is 5 levels below me does not mean they are a push over, sometimes all it takes is one lucky torp and the BH can close the gap and board my pirate vessel. Or I get cock and am caught with a hold of artifacts and an alien shoves them up my exhaust ports lol. ST RPG and 4x are the only games I have currently on my phone. Still play both of them.

The D2/D3 argument had been around a long time. Blizzard took different approaches to the game. My personal take is D3 was a solid game despite its flaws. I don't like skill tree mechanics in a game such as found in D2, I feel trapped into a certain build. Once D3RoS came out, which sank the AH, blessed us with the Crusader class, a fifth act, new uber boss, and rebalanced and synergy to all classes, it tops the rest of the series.
It fits this thread by the differences the two development teams took. The mechanics are different. Both are quality games and worth the money we spent on them imho. The different mechanics of the two is the key.
Of course, as always people will have different opinions. What has always bothered me is the complaints of "this game ruins the series, worthless developers..." you see all over forums and messege boards. I always chuckle when I see those. Every game will have flaws and developers will do things we don't agree with, that includes TB. They are doing what they think is best. Even big names like Blizzard, Bungie, and Bethesda will listen if enough complain with valid reasoning.

Oh so many many hours water on Diablo. Still play Diablo 3 on the PS4. At least in 3 the legendary can be detected when they drop due to they "shine" while on the ground.

Lol. How many times I've tried different characters on Fallout 4... wow. I like mechanics like that. Game does not change, but how I go about it does. My first sucessful was a non stealth gunslinger (pistols) build. Can't get a melee character going well. I know I could google it, but I don't want to.
That's why I like ST for my favorite TB game. One would think CK being I love Shadowrun, but ST has the "survive at all odds" like Fallout, Dune, Madmax, etc. Different builds with different strengths and weaknesses determine actions.

There is more depth in the question than what presents itself. I like a lot of mechanics if done properly.
I like in depth games, character builds... especially if multi character builds possible, open format, and fps. I also love the old turn based strategy.
Few examples are Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls, Destiny, and old older games like Civ series, Sim City, Master Of Orion.

Little about myself, I am third generation United Auto Worker and I work for FCA (Chrysler). Let me throw a few things into the mix just as food for thought.
It's no secret that the US economy is based on the free market system. We call it capitalism. That created an elite class. I'm referring to your CEOs, Board members, share and stockholders (there is a slight difference). Captialism is an of itself authoritarian in nature. One CEO and many workers; picture a pyramid with the workers at the bottom. When my grandfather worked the lines one plant required thousands more workers than it does now. As mentioned above, automation advances have allowed the corporations to produce more, at a faster rate, with less labor... all while raising prices to as much as the market will bear. That is how a business works, keep your costs low and sell the product and/or service for a high as you can.
There is a conspiracy theory that Walter Reuther's, the UAW President that achieved recognition of the UAW in the 30s/40s with the sit down strikes, plane was sabotaged by capitalist elite he worked against. Why? He was tinkering with the idea of worker ownership of the auto companies. Sure as snow in winter, the Ford family was not giving up their majority stake to a bunch of line rats lol. Worker ownership is a type of collective ownership, also referred to as socialism. Please keep in mind communism is only an authoritarian (state owned business) type of socialism. Worker owned business are not going to send their jobs to China or Mexico, they are also less apt to allow automation to happen because of the idea of everyone needs a job.
Politics does play in with the US treating corporations as citizens with things like Citizens United. That allows them to contribute any amount to the poltical cadidates they see fit to do what they want, which is lower taxes, tax havens, tax subsidies, etc.. The common citizen, even the declining middle class, cannot compete with the pocketbooks of the corporations. That leads to the US government being ruled by the elite, although this time of it being the King of England, it is the corporate elite.
"We the people" will not break from this trend until until WE hit the corporations where it matters most... in the pocketbook. Both of our major parties have corporate money backing them.
What had to change? We do. All of us. Hopefully, sooner rather than later.
If you have read this far, I hopefully did not offend any particular political belief. I am not one to bite my tongue, but also not one to pick a fight with other views.

It mentions gun attack bonus helps in attacking the planet. I always thought the drop ships supply the guns. Is that accurate or will putting a few ship points in guns help increase the attack?
