pendell - you've definitely got RQ to dive into a specialist. I would not suggest trying them all at once. If you play through the game and continue into the New Game+ realm, you can do them all with one squad. As you mentioned, you can skip the tutorial and start at level 5 in a jiffy, so its easy to try another specialist branch if you want to check out Neptune or Berserk. Endless respec also plays a lot into this

Thank you, fallen. I certainly hope so too! Thanks for working so hard to make such a cool game! Something that would make it easier; perhaps some advice. What I want is soldier/scout/engineer/captain/paladin/hydra. I guess I can't build up ALL my specialists, so I'll go with everybody's favorite Xeno cooker, which also doubles as a handy way to start campfires and perform home renovation. Is it possible to do this? Or am I going to have to sacrifice one of those six specialties? I'm going to need a scout for infiltration, a soldier for all-purpose work, and an engineer to capture stuff. A captain, obviously. Will I have time to build up paladin as well? Or am I going to have to research and get by with ordnance medpacks? Respectfully, Brian P. Tutorial 3 is still a bit random on Ironman, but you aren't playing that. About 1/4 of my Ironman starts end there from a combination of more powerful xenos spawning randomly and which terminals blow up. TA is the same on the top difficulty tutorial if a 5HP xeno randomly spawns in a mission. The xenos aren't that tough, but the n00b Templars are a bit weak. The Paladin can be a minimal healer build, still tough but not a huge killer. Engineers heal heat, take TPs and drop turrets as distractions. They can also become fairly nasty shooters. Berserker, Hydra & Neptune are a "pick 2" IMO, just like TA. Watch your gear and talent allocations since it can be annoying to end up with several high point bits of gear you cannot fit on or having too high a skill cap and not enough talent points on X, while Y has the points, but not enough skill cap.

Quick suggestion: For the tutorial, have an additional dialog panel describing the existence of alien spawning pits and put one right at the very beginning of the level in plain sight. Have one of the characters (under computer control) walk up , give a dialog panel or two, then smash it.
That way the player knows what to look for at the start of this level and they will be less likely to be overrun at the beginning of the level, but we still haven't actually changed any of the other placement, so the difficulty remains the same; the new player just has a bit more information.
Respectfully,
Brian P.

It would be nice if the tutorial explained better how extra MP worked with heat dissipation. Specifically, if I have 9 MP (+3) and move 3 spaces, do I get the full 6 MP heat dissipation bonus because I still have 6 MP left or if the game subtracts my 3 move actions from "heat dissipation" MP first and only gives me bonus dissipation for 3 MP.

My understanding is that 3 mp is subtracted from the potential heat dissipation, so 6-3=3. +/-mp are both ignored so if you have -2mp gear so can only move 4 you still get to use heat dissipation from those 2mp you can't use to move.

Thanks for the feedback and welcome to the forum! The heat dissipation is based on MP used, not MP you have. So, you don't get any bonus by having +MP gear. If you use 3 MP (for moving or by using AP), you're possible heat reduction is -3 units. It does not matter that you have +3 MP, this in fact has no bonus to heat reduction.

Just played the 1st 3 levels today. Judging from all the comments and complaints about level 3, I think you guys have done an excellent job rebalancing it! 'cos I just finished it with zero casualties on Demanding (and this is my first time playing the game too). My Scout was dangerously close to being cornered and killed, but thankfully the other knights got to the rest of the nodes before that happened.
My main strategy (if you can call it that, haha, I improvised on the spot) was to send the scout and captain off to the right and left corners of the map, respectively, and then sweep upwards, while a soldier guarded the tact point with the engineer and another soldier went northwest to the farthest node. The captain met up with the last soldier and was able to fend off an attack from the rear, while the scout snooped along the eastern wall to get the nodes there. In retrospect, it was a mistake to send her alone, as a close encounter with a single xeno sent her HP plummeting to dangerous levels. Near the end I sent another soldier to cover her, but turned out I finished the level before he was actually needed.

redartrats - very nice play! Yes, we've kept watching analytics and continually balanced the level down until it had the win / loss ratio that feels right for the tutorial. It took about 20 changes overall, all small, but we kept at it Glad you agree!

when I played the game for the first time, I lost three soldiers on normal difficulty it was when I tried the free version... Truth is, I lost due to being reckless, so next time I will be more careful. I just found the character building a bit chaotic, it took me a while to realize that when you spend the stat points, not all are visible and you have to scroll through them (you realize it easily when you are searching for stealth and cannot find it, hehe ) But, although they are a bit chaotic at first, I definitely like that there are the algorythms that calculate for example damage, accuracy, etc.
