As promised, I'm running a Vraes/Kjartan/Fyona/Tamilin group on hard. Not a challenge yet, as I haven't met my first Deathkin. But I just got my first "ehhhmmm…" moment pulling 3 groups in a row and I though I'd make a stop and catch some breath.
Layout so far:
Vraes[8] (Pole+Shield)
Polearms 7
Strength 11
Phalanx Shield 3
Burst of Speed
Natural Mastery
FEROCITY!!1
Kjartan[8]
Sorchery 5
Conjuring 6
Knowledge 8
Choking Ash 5
Pureflame Shield
Warding Words
Burning Blades
Fyona[8]
Hammers 5
Invocation 4
Strength 9
Holy Strickening 3
Blessed Aura 2
Zealous Strikes
Consecrated Defense
Shield of Cortias
Tamilin[8]
Stealth 8(17)
Bows 5
Dexterity 10
Farsight 4 (check)
Blacknight 3
Got overboard with Tamilin's stealth (17 at level 8 is… A LITTLE too much).
The rest is about where I want it to be. I'm starting to stockpile her talents starting about now.
Overall, this time the party is really killing stuff. A little boost in Sorcery and Knowledge for Kjartan got a long way towards the damage, as predicted. FEROCITY!!1 is unmatched havok creator as always. And Fyona actually actively participating in the kills make the count tick real fast.
I'm mixed on Fyona's part actually. Giving her 2h hammer could ramp up her damage output to outmatch that of Tamilin (before RO) but may negatively impact defenses.
Anyway. What made me make this post is a little event at the ransaked caravan on West Road. I pulled from the far east, slowly closing in on the wagons. But then an accidental step down prompted for another pull. I quickly wrapped up the closest of the west group and repositioned Fyona to the south, then moved Vraes further west and north across the water body to reach to the last standing archers. Boomm, third pull.
At this point I had Kjartan positioned undesirable, so I pulled south as much as I could without exposing to the rats coming from that side. To the much of my surprise, Fyona and Tamilin quickly dealt with south party. Or as it turned out, the more active part of it. I then moved Tamilin west to open line to the north across the water, but that rat decided to jump right onto Vraes' welcome laps. With Fyona again backing his side, he finished off that one archer and party regrouped for rebuff, finishing it just in time for a new wave coming over the wagon. The very-very-very last rat happened to be a stubled archer at the south that didn't move for like 5 turns, I had to go and get him in VIP mode.
In the end, I think what really saved the situation is a consistent damage output of the group. Which, surprisingly, turned out to be just a little higher than expected at just the right moment.
