I'm over here chuckling thinking about unarmored soldiers fighting the Xeno...
All I can envision is that scene from Starship Troopers where they first meet the bugs, and what once was an inspired charge turns into an utter rout with people dying by the thousands. Poor non-Templars never stood half a chance...

Speaking about unarmored humans fighting, can someone tell me what a PDF platoon would bring into battle for weaponry? I haven't gotten to the part in the game where you command the humans alongside the Templars, but I don't care if someone "spoils" anything for me.
I know they carry Hexshell weaponry, Plasma weaponry, but are there other types of weapons they would bring in an actual fight against the Xeno or humans?
I'm trying to come up with a new story so any help would be welcome.

After that you get into crew served Weaponry like the Turrets you have to take out in several of the levels.

In larger engagements, ground combat would involve both mortar shelling and tracked-vehicles like tanks. Dropships, bombers.

I keep envisioning large scale sniper rifles being employed...
Have you seen the 20mm cannon(IRL) that is formed like the Barrett .50 cal, but it's about 2x as large, requiring a team to move and operate? I feel like something like this would almost need to exist in the PDF arsenal... To have something guaranteed to deal massive amounts of damage to whatever it touches. Any chances that something along these lines would be a thing?

I don't know the specific weapon you mention, but as the years pass after the Exodus is over, the Faction military arm continues to advance its technology and production capabilities. It is far behind when it starts. See 4X Empires.

Since this is on lore, I've been wondering: How often do twins, or even triplets or more, occur in Zendu bloodlines?

I'm over here chuckling thinking about unarmored soldiers fighting the Xeno... All I can envision is that scene from Starship Troopers where they first meet the bugs, and what once was an inspired charge turns into an utter rout with people dying by the thousands. Poor non-Templars never stood half a chance... While great for cutscenes as IG vs Tyranids, I don't think of SST as a great example of light (unarmored) human high tech combat (from a book that practically gave us elite power armored Space Marines...we get a movie with swarms of unarmored hordes designed to die like flies). I saw one clip, I think from a later film, that showed the defense of a fort with massed volley fire, heavy weapons, etc. I think the Xenos can be taken down if the FDF can set up and pursue a deliberate set piece strategy. If it gets fluid (and with Xenos who can pop up anywhere at any time, it will get fluid) then the casualties will rise...quickly. If it gets fluid enough then your scene from SST will be the result. It is annoying to bring up, but being combat SF genres, the Templar universe shares a lot of tropes with 40k. Which means, yes, a squad of Templars can clean out a Xeno infestation, but a company to battalion of well trained & equipped FDF with heavy support should be able to do the same thing with relatively minimal casualties. Lesser quality (likely) and lesser support (more likely) would mean the manpower requirements and casualties would go up. No, not by storming in with bullet, flame & blade, but by massed firepower (think "destroyed the city to save it"). Which is about what you would expect from similar force type tropes to do in 40k.

You can see a lot of what you might expect from the FDF in Templar Battleforce fighting rebel FDF and Cultists on higher difficulties. Hex-shell rifles, portable guided rocket launchers, plasma cutters and handheld incinerators.

Wow, a ton of great answers here from the devs. Completely changed how I see Leviathan mechs ( aka, their sheer size), the xeno threat, and the game universe in general. Thank you for all your time and responses!

After seeing how the human soldiers fare against the Xenos compared to Templars.....when my Star Traders Captain beat an alien ship's captain in a duel, how did that work? I mean other then his ability to loose 3 eyes in one fight, the star traders captain was an ordinary human right?
