I am considering releasing a patch that substantially changes the Captain build meta in Star Traders RPG.
This patch includes adding Strength and a portion of unspent XP to the Captain's level, as well as updates to the game level calculator to make late game (level 50+) much harder.
The patch is a lot of fun to play, and really refreshes the game. I'm worried that existing players will see the changes as too much too fast.
What do you think?

It sounds interesting. For us long time players, it could provide a nice bit of fun. Hard to say though how it will go over. Perhaps wait until ST2 is out and about in the world and then return to adding more to the first. Or perhaps call this the final patch, only do new ones for game breaking bugs, and consider ST finished.

Or perhaps call this the final patch, only do new ones for game breaking bugs, and consider ST finished. Considering the level range (50+) and that this would target harder difficulty, I am not sure that it will have much effect on new players who are playing on a difficulty level matched to their skill, but as you said, long time players. Our commitment to ST RPG is such that we're going to keep updating

The fact you've kept updating a game over 5 years old is one of the best things about you guys. It's unheard of today and even years ago for a developer to keep putting as much work into a title as you have. For me this proposed change I would like to see just to try it. There are still things I'm learning about ST. Still unlocks that I haven't gotten or ones that I have but the award hasn't been created yet. I'm probably going to buy the Award Unlock sometime this year. I've always enjoyed trying to get them myself, but I have ST on several devices and it gets confusing at times trying to remember which ones have the good stuff for my ships I look forward to anything you guys do to ST. There has never been an update to it, or any of your games, where I thought it made it worse. Since I found you guys, my game life has only gotten better and better. P.S. If you could make an app to improve my love life that would help also

We love our jobs -- and dedication to updates are a big part of that!

I like those ideas. I've never made a high strength build because it always seemed like cheating to me. I may be in the minority here, but nerfing strength builds would actually encourage me to try it.

nerfing strength builds will indeed make it harder I just hope that it applies to the opponents as well Although wait, that would make torping OP! Every point they throw in strength when it gets counted to the level means more advantage for a torper.

Yes, all rules changes are symmetrical in ST RPG.

Every point they throw in strength when it gets counted to the level means more advantage for a torper. It wouldn't make it OP, but it would make it certainly make it relatively more powerful. Just how powerful will depend on the XP cost of strength and how much of it the enemies will have. Although come to think of it, Cory could just slightly increase the level of enemies on all difficulties if he wanted to adjust for that.

I am so glad that strength is finally recognised as part of your level - it was always an anomaly that you could build up large amounts of strength and not have it impact on your difficulty. Everything else changes after all Also - good about the XP - XP is supposed to be used, not stockpiled. If you stockpile - then you have to balance with the increased difficulty - sooner or later it will tip the balance and you'll want to convert XP to skills/attribute points

I can't really envision this doing much for my builds. I tend to have only 1 point of Strength and half my hull in Charisma, while levelling Quickness and Wisdom equally. Then I go with half hull in Negotiation and Intimidation, while keeping Pilot and Tactics maxed.
Edit: In fact, come to think of it, I have yet to use even a single standard ship, either. Ship builder is awesome.

I say do it.
It's always seemed like an exploit to me, so I've never done it in any of my games... it seems like it should have already been fixed so that strength would add to your level, so I'm all in favor of correcting it to better balance the game.
Suffer no bug to live, right? Unless it's the armor/resistance over-buff, which is fine.
