I was wondering where the alien ships were in the game. I noticed that a number were listed on the new ships list on the blog. Do you need to play at a certain difficulty levels to find them? I have reached level 45 on the normal difficulty level and have been all over the elite board, though it is possible that I may have missed some planets and locations. Nonetheless, I have yet to encounter an alien ship. I have received a few rumors of alien attacks in space, had exploring/harvesting crew killed by primitive aliens planetside, but have yet to encounter any aliens themselves?

I'll tell you where they are: Kicking my ass up and down the frontier.
I just had a great game ended abruptly by a 35/40/35 alien ship with 200 crew.

In most cases not seeing Aliens is good. We will have some awards in the future based on killing them.
In deep space there are Aliens, Narvidian (worse) and Hulks.
All are rare. Level 45 is impressive!
In some places they are more common. Using the 'Patrol' command and traveling over dead planets.
Patrol where Alien Rumors are (surface or deep space) or Patrol on a Dead Planet.
My advice is: "Do not go looking for the Alien, the Heretic or the Narvidian."
They're fearsome, merciless and you see them so rarely they are hard to remember which are which.
Tips:
Krangg Alien -- Savage creatures with almost no leadership structure. Defeating the "Captain" is very difficult as he is randomly selected each turn.
Bolllish Alien -- Hive mind creatures without any concern for personal safety, these creatures receive a massive bonus when they outnumber there opponents. If the Captain is Wounded or Killed, the Alien loose 50% of combat ability.
I will provide a list =) ------------- Knife Alien Zenga Alien Zorga Alien Krangg Alien Bolllish Alien Heela Alien Keeliz Alien Fae Alien Faear Alien Demios Alien
Narvidian Fighter Narvidian Carrier Narvidian Hive Narvidian Void World Narvidian Null Spacer
Farfallen Space-Hulk Righteous Space-Hulk Zendu Space-Hulk Narvidian Space-Hulk

So if I saw 2 alien ships about a dozen turns apart while I was on Level 7, does that sounds like an buggish anomaly or just really bad luck on my part?

buggish anomaly but not beyond the statistical realm of possibility.
back to back in one trip would be 1 in 1,000,000.
so it shouldn't happen until like 2015 :0
I will look at it. are you playing on Impossible?

buggish anomaly, could be bad random number generation. i am looking for this now. i think i just solved the bad death situation -- it is now impossible to hit 0 crew PS: do you make a habit of sailing around dead planets? =)

i try to stick to the green zones for fuel savings even planets surrounded by green zones will cost you fuel to fly through

Seen only one and currently level 54 on normal after purcgasing elite.
Got 1.7 million credit and star hero in all six houses/syndicates.
Also level 15 military officer in all factions and have trade/death warrants in all six as well.
Think I might go exploring more of the remote locations.
Think I might start a game at the next level.

the higher difficulty levels will certainly test your skills if you are looking for that.
we will soon be releasing an "Awards" system that provides some basic goals.
after that we will keep working to introduce features that allow the Captain to become more and more powerful in the Galaxy.

I went looking for them around the dead planets and managed to have two encounters ---- one with Heela and one with Zenga. I may have fled from aliens in the past, thinking that they were pirates. One interesting note. I was able to conscript aliens. Is this intentional or not? Given, their generally hostile nature, it seems odd to conscript them.

On normal and challenging I never see aliens. But on hard I was knocked out of 2 games by alien attacks. Both times it was after exploring several planets for resources.
