Those of you with active fanfiction stories, or who have story ideas but haven't quite had the time or push to do it.
I've been talking to Fallen about ways we the fans can do more with our talents. I've been here about two weeks and just recently began digging up fanfiction and another fan art thread. (Not that my own was well parked either). This website isn't really optimized for it.
So here is what is happening. The Trese Bros. And I along with any writers and artists who wish to contribute- are starting a Trese Games-themed fan art and fan fiction website on blogspot.
They'll help set it up, but it will be up to us to cram it full of content. I don't have much experience in web design, so help here would be appreciated. I don't want to throw more on the brothers' plate than I have to.
Ideas are welcome. My early idea is for an art gallery split into a combined ST and TA 'Shalunverse' since they share the same setting, Cyber Knights, Pirates, and Heroes. Sub galleries would include wallpapers, commissions, comics, banners/stuff produced for ads, ect and non Trese work that is in the same vein. I can produce illustrations for fanfics as time permits.
The fanfiction area would be similarly subdivided. Authors I'm assuming would have access enough to add and edit their work.
What say you?

I find this to be an interesting idea. One of the best parts about posting things on the boards is the interaction of the community. Whether exalt's or smites, comments and encouragement and now the new gifting.
I wouldn't want to lose that sense of community and friendship. If we could maintain that so we would know who is posting, commenting etc I would be willing to give it a look.
Right now I do my writing in Google Docs and just copy it into the forum. It is very simple and works very well. So ease of use would be a consideration as well.
I think fan art and fan fiction is a wonderful part of what the Trese Brothers have built and it is a testament to the games and to the Brothers that they have developed such an engaged and creative audience.
Blogspot is pretty easy to work with for a single user. Do you have any experience setting it up for multiple users?

Not even for a single user lol. Ill wait for them to actually break ground on it- they should be the ones to name it and have at least an honorary admin account even if they dont have time to do much on it. Im not sure if blogspot supports karma or not. We can still have discussion threads on stories or new artwork here on this forum- but the work itself would be easier to find and browse, or see via google searches. Visibility means attention. Attention means retention. Retention means fanbase.

Also if this actually gets off the ground I would possibly be willing to help admin the site. I have some experience working with wargaming sites in the past. Again taking content out of a social environment can be tricky, and I have seen it flop when something similar was tried on one of the sites I worked with.
So keep me in the loop I would be happy to discuss with you or the Brothers.

paxdad - great comments and thanks for the offer to admin and thinking about the challenges of pulling this "off the forum." A blog is a good place for an on-going serial thread of activities, which some of the story threads on the forum have achieved, with comments in a side thread. However, its a bit harder for a new forum user to wander into some of these amazing works of fiction, where a blog can be a land-n-go if you are interested. I'd love some suggestions on how to find the best middle ground to 1) better expose and show off our awesome and creative community members, 2) provide a better way to get fans to experience the fan fiction / art (lots of people who I bet would read the stories or enjoy the art might stop short of visiting the "forum" at all), 3) keep it tied together so we don't spin off a writers community that lacks its key audience (living here on the forum). Thoughts?

P.s. Cory and I co-admin our blogspot blog. It's easy -- but everyone has full control. Looks like you can give certain users "write posts only" control, but we have never messed with it.

Besides cross-pollinating between the websites with adverts and links, perhaps a button in future game updates the way there is a forum button now.

I was asked to help co-admin this (someday real) blogspot. I think It would be a good learning experience. I answer: yes.
Of course, I got a lot of fan fiction roaming around this board. I'll be happy to include it, if it helps in any way.
The story, Cerberus, is a story that attempts to link Star Traders RPG and Cyber Knights RPG. Its the same SOB, just different eras.
Of course, is not 'canon' ... just soooo much fun.

canon or not, it helps flesh the Shalunverse out, and are wonderful as the games are- they could use a 'fluff factory'

A few ideas to call out the fan fiction/art and keep things cohesive... 1 Currently the forums are grouped by game. Make a new parent section for fan contributions and group all of the current fan fiction/art forums under as sub forums. That is one idea for making things more visible on the current forum.
2 Have an unwritten rule that if an author submits a new work to the blog that same author posts a link to it in the appropriate forum.
3 I have encountered one or two really dark pieces floating around. I know we deal in the "dark" future but lets keep things relatively family friendly around a PG13 rating. (My Opinion of Course)
4 Link to it in as many places as possible and link back to the forums.
These are just a few quick ideas of course hope they help.

paxdad - great suggestions. 1. I wonder how everyone else thinks about this? That might help make it more generally available or easy to find. It would take a little while to move all the threads, but .. rabidbite and dayan - thoughts? 2. Anything going onto the blog would need to get linked to on the forum. 3. I'd rather not get involved in policing the creativity of others, but with the goal to draw others to the games, community and forum -- that is a good general rating. 4. We'll definitely be bringing traffic to the site via our social channels, etc. A first starting point would be deciding a domain name ... flufffactory.blogspot.com? Lol, ... something more serious? Something short or easy to spell is always a winner.

Regarding #3 I certainly don't want to get into policing people's creativity either it is more of a rule of thumb. I realize this is a subjective matter and one persons opinion will differ from another. I would rate my own writing as PG13 to a light R for language violence and thematic material but others may have a different opinion.

Any ideas or suggestions on the blogspot URL? I see quadrant.blogspot.com is taken, but something like steelshodlibrary.blogspot.com is not

Shalun@blogspot.com? We can probably add a warning for the content. Prhaps by dialog box or toast but just incase we should set a limit to no outright porn or hentai.

Something short or easy to spell is always a winner. I believe in automation. The less attention we have to give to something, the better. On 1: I will have to differ to wiser heads on this one. I am too inexperienced with forum creation and blogging to give a satisfying answer. On 2: Not sure how this will work out, but I'm willing to give it a go. On 3: I don't want to get into policing writing work either. We can have the readers police it or have an age disclaimer (like those you find for bloody games). Gets us out of that issue fast. Example: "This is a Free Form Fan Fiction area. Adult Content May Be Experienced. (Not porn, you find porn you contact us and we'll get our pitchforks and machetes ready). On 4: Cool. Any ideas or suggestions on the blogspot URL? I see quadrant.blogspot.com is taken, but something like steelshodlibrary.blogspot.com is not Random site name ideas treseemporium STRPGFAN worldsoftrese (of the 3 my choice)
