Hey John, note you can also shoot down a Steel Song ship if it is a good one ... taking it over with your crew (executing the old captain) is perfectly legit as you are still flying a ship that is flagged with your faction. In fact, I strongly recommend it as a quick way to upgrade your ship. Note, the strategy only really works well with Steel Song ships ... This made me laugh way more than it should have.

Would you guys consider the Cadar Flagship worth the trade in of my current ship? I'm flying a Strikecruiser. I know the stats are better than what I've got now, but it won't be a waste later huh?

Can't remember the stats for the strike cruiser ... if you're in early stages of the game, and the strike cruiser has great EHr and SHr, then I'd stick with the Strike Cruiser. Wait until your pilot skill is beefed up sufficiently so that when you take the jump into a 30+ hull, you can actually pilot the thing.
Remember, rule of thumb is that you shouldn't fly a ship that has a larger hull size than your pilot skill level. That's the barest minimum - I'd recommend having a significantly higher pilot score than hull size.
Also, again, a ship that has a hull of 30, but 60 engines is going to be easier to control than a ship with hull of 30 and 30 engines.

Oh right. I remember a lot of these discussions from the old days, like when TenebrousPirate and a few others were always around. Most of those guys I haven't seen at all.
Anyway, I've reached the point of no return. My rep standings arent in the 1000s like yours were, almost exclusively due to extremely dull faction alliances and embargoes. I swear, no one wants a war. And if they do, it's an assassin war and it's not with my team. I wish there was a way to influence conflicts. That'd be cool. Maybe a Consulate type class....

By doing contracts you have a chance of spawning new conflicts. It's not direct influence, but eventually you should get something in your favor. I outlined a few other strategies for when there are no conflicts in an earlier post as well.

When in doubt, always attack Steel Song. If you get a war as a result, it's a bonus, if not, it's satisfying all the same.

contributor Yeah, I've started doing contracts again. Seems to help, plus everyone fears me now, so I have no issues with contract completion now. slayernz There are other strategies! The hell you say!? Anyway, my captain is still cruising around in that Strikecruiser. I haven't seen anything better yet that wasn't ridiculously overpriced, and after Slayernz reminded me of that Pilot vs Hull deal, that limits me some. I've basically left Intimidate alone at 10. Raised Warrior to the initial max of 9 and left it. Pilot is 23, Tactics is 20, Stealth is 15. Haven't touched the others. Curdently level 17. Sorry if the updates annoy you guys. I can't do screen caps, and I'm having a lot of fun with this challenge. Also, I can't believe how well I'm doing, especially with how out of practice I am. Crazy isn't so scary now lol. One question though. Cadar and De Valtos were trade allies for awhike, and both pissed at Rychart. So I surveyed them for a few years, got in good with De Valtos, and got permits with them so I could sell crap to them if needed. Does this violate any rule I might have missed for the challenge?

Holy smokes, Batman! I have discovered how to screencap with this hunk of dark age tech! Unfortunately, it seems finicky and kind of a pain. I have to press the Back key and Home button at the same time. Oddly, the former is just a touch activated symbol while the latter is a textile button, directly under the other. Plus, with the back key actually going back in-game, I keep exitog the screen I am trying to cap for you guys.
Stupid phone being stupid.

@hatesolace As long as you fly a ship with your home flag on it and don't get yourself killed above level 11 anything goes. Try to ditch your Strikecruiser as soon as you can pilot something better. My flagship rips through them like paper.

My biggest is figuring out if I want a ship with more sails or engines, because apparently both are near impossible to find.

Are officers besides mechanics and scouts really that rare? I have seen squat this whole challenge.

Nope. I had my choice of officers, in fact they were queuing to join. You just have to check out the rumours and know which rumours relate to which officers.
