Main Idea: The Four Heroes will replace the four Fallen Gods at the end of the game.
Argument: This theory wasn't really based on anything more than the number "4." Four fallen Gods, four heroes. What if your heroes eventually did something so epic that they either did, or at least in popular imagination restored the original pantheon of 13 Gods.
Doubts: The whole episode with Vurnak makes me think that this is not the way the plot is going. If the end was to restore the thirteen then it wouldn't make sense to lose one of the 9.
Resolved?: Pretty sure this one isn't going to pan out.

I love the notion and find it very plausible, given that we're probably going to encounter more gods I want to say the number seven, but that almost seems too predictable as well.

I guess that they just take over as four new gods (or something titan-like) when they finish their mission and Ryethin bows out gracefully with the start of a new era.

Main Idea: Balgair is Logar, one of the Nine Faithful Gods.
Argument: Again this one's pretty hunchy, but since Ryethin said the Gods walk among us and we're told to be on the look out for them I've been looking and thinking. Balgair loves the bar, the city life, chatting somebody up. What does the flavor text say? Something like; "Minstrels, the lost, forsaken all call to Logar." Sounds like the bar crowd to me. So he's in his temple. And it makes sense that Ryethin might have conscripted some of the other Gods to help her chosen along the way. Besides how does Balgair flee Riven Field and make it to Brunehorn on his own if he doesn't have some serious mojo? He probably just had all those trolls and spiders rolling on the floor laughing their asses off while he walked on by.
Doubts: I hear that to be included as one of the 13 you had to make a significant donation to the HoS Kickstarter and don't think John coughed that much up which would indicate that maybe his character is not one of the 13. But maybe the TB's decided to bend the rules a little.
Resolved?: Not yet.

contributor - awesome theory, definitely keep an eye out for the 13 I find it interesting that -all- of your doubts are meta.

I'll pay more attention the next time I pass through his bits of the story, but so far nothing "in story" has made me think that my theory couldn't be true. He is after all incognito and some things could be explained by the fact that he is playing a role. If others see reasons I could be wrong go ahead and post them.

My newest theory is that 6th Daughter – Evesse – beauty, scheming, seduction, desire, true love, Night Mistress (Dark-Born) is behind the capture of Valent Koda and possibly had a big role in the corruption of Vurnak. I also think she's somehow in close contact with Vlotgar Braeys corrupting his mind and playing up the rivalry with the Koda clan, ultimately leading to him paying for the capture of Valent Koda not necessarily to have him killed but at least detained long enough that Koda and Braeys would go to war making it easier for her to secure relics of power. Her lies say that his brother would probably be killed in the fighting allowing him to rise to the seat of power next with her at his side. She also is responsible for the walking dead in Ember I believe. I mean, after all, the easiest way to a man's heart is his...ermmm, pride? Interesting, I hadn't really put any thought into how she might play into this. I'm still curious about whether we will eventually meet all of the 13 or if this will just feature a select cast of them. Yeah I've been thinking too about the whole Valent/Braeys thing. The team seems pretty sure that Rabiel is not directly involved (i.e. no "oily" deception), but Kyera also seems convinced that he is pulling strings somewhere. Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm.

I just arrived in Brunehorn and my group of adventurer's asked an interesting question, why ISN'T Baron Koda stopping the cultists if they are indeed a known problem? Well, beyond the obvious answer given next that he wants war with The Braeys, is why? I mean I get that Baron Koda has laid claim, but I think it's more than that. I think here too Evesse is influencing events with the Baron as well trying to stir up war. This would play into my earlier theory also that she had a hand in corrupting Vurnak below their city and is using him as another pawn.

I'm chugging through the Orcin Caves (really love those levels btw) and wondering how Karjtan seems to know so much about them? In all the dialogue, it's as if he's been there before. "We're reaching the back of the caves now..."
More seriously though, anyone willing to venture a guess as to what's going on with the Braeys Brothers and Valent? I'm thinking maybe we'll find out soon when E2A2 comes out, but I haven't figured it out yet. Also, who do you think we'll meet in the CotD? Is Rabiel up there hunting for treasure?
