What's it for? I have a lot of it from hacking the matrix.

Maybe you can sell it to GlobbyLeaks so they can expose the government schemes to all and sundry?

Mega-Corporations, gangs, and criminal organizations alike all have secrets. In a technological age, many of these secrets are secure on hosts linked to the Global Matrix, locked and protected behind walls of firewalls, defensive programs and barriers. If you can sleaze or smash through these defenses and get your hands on sensitive data--you have hit paydata. This data is all worth some money to someone out there. Some of it is pure gold, and some is more akin to the metal that was once used in ancient times, I believe called brass.
This age is full of data hounds, hoarders, fixers, and connectors who will pay for that data. When I say full, I mean that you must find a contact or a connector who will buy the paydata from you. At this time, in New Boston, such connections are rare, as the Global Matrix has just roared back to life. But, as we enhance the content across the city, you will be able to fence that paydata to likely contacts working for the enemies of the people from whom you stole it!
These contacts do exist today, but you need to find their V-Chip, either through random encounters, talking to the right people, or getting really lucky. If you get a V-Chip, install it on a computer, and use a phone somewhere to get access to your address book.

Yeah, my poor hacker keeps interrupting any gangers harassing innocents that he comes across, hoping to get a v-chip for a buyer. So far, this has only ended in a lot of running away screaming like a girl for him.

I enter every fight screaming "SPOOOOOOOOOOON!!!" This is typically followed by the enforcers running away in panic, or falling over incapcitated by fits of laughter.

I guess i have not filled out the hacking option as much as I could.
My first char was a hacker and I gave up on him because he could not get any $$$... and something went weird with that game.
My second was a sniper who has become insanely strong. Enough to kill drones and corporate soldiers on good days. Hes got a lot of Vchips so mabey i will try making him hack some data too. As of this moment the biggest payoff of any kind was a random vchip that I called and I got the option: I have info on etc and he paid me 2300... I bought a LR-15 which does 10 damage but i can never afford to use because the shells cost 100 each or something... Guess they are enriched uranium with platinum coating and are blessed by a rabbi... Should be for that price. I mean have you ever actually been to a gun store? hollow points are only like 5% more expensive than most bullets...
got off topic a hair. hope the hacking gets a little more involved. There are some great directions this skill could go...

How much skill do you need to actually successfully get paydata by hacking? I have 9,is it enough?

I got some just by successfully uploading viruses and breaking into mainframes. I also got some from killing a bunch of enforces once, which I wasn't aware that you could.

Paydata is any type of valuable, sale-able data, from chips, to files, to maps, to notes. It can be found on mainframe computers in mass, but certain thugs, security forces, and other enemies will have some of this data on them naturally. This could be security badges, IDs, orders, staff reports, etc. Someone, somewhere, in 2217 wants to buy that data and exploit that faction.

Ok, at least it wasn't a glitch in the system.
Oh, and by the way, are those files that we can upload to our computers and read for game hints part of the paydata system if we don't upload them? I had 4 of the CyberKnews: Fences file last night.

Anyone has any tip of where to find these v-chips? I only found Vinny so far and really need some data-fence contact

They mostly come from random encounters. You know the ones that go, you are being followed. Confront or evade.

I've been thinking about a solution to the problem of pay data. That being the issue of shifting it (selling). The big problem in my mind is how to do so without making CK too easy.
Currently it's ... well a little problematical. For example I've had 50 units of data from almost the first hour of me playing, and even today I can't sell it, as I don't have a contact.
A few ideas are as follows:
A building that acts as an information broker within the zones. It's location may well be a secret until your rep is high enough? Or it could just always be moving.
Similar to the above, but they would sell random v-chips to contacts, you would not know before hand who deals in what information.
A random encounter who would offer to purchase information from you there and then, one time offer. Then he runs.
Any thoughts?

The random encounter idea is interesting from the standpoint of our current system. I have several contacts who deal in paydata...just not the heaps of data I currently have. Is there something particular that triggers "a v-chip is all that passes between you"?
