So, I know STRPG had a slightly different system going, since there were only 6 factions and they all had something different to offer. However, I have yet to figure out how the politics system in CK works. It seems that, beyond the Heat rating, getting positive or negative reputation with any specific faction does nothing. I can only assume that the full rep system isn't in place yet, so I must ask what benefits you have in store for our characters that pick and choose our way through?
I have seen the rumor and conflict buttons, so I am waiting for that to show up. I'm hoping we'll be able to access better equipment with factions that really like us versus those that do not. I had planned on joining Mars once I can.
Oh, and currently it seems way easier to get rep with some factions over others. I tried going to the Mars area, and for whatever reason I kept getting attacked by swat teams.

My guess is it will be a little like Star Traders. Though I would like to see certain privileges being granted for sticking with a particular faction. - Better contracts
- Discounts within Faction Territory
- Reduced Heat Buildup
etc...

CK politics is (as its beta) a rapidly growing work-in progress. Politics, reputation, contact networks and heat ... The Cyber Knight can be a loyalist or work from the shadows, serving anyone, doing any job for the yen. Rumors, conflict, and faction "stock" are all in our future (2217) as our faction leaders, and more content, bonuses, and perks available to those who have pleased a faction. silverstone - if you visit the streets areas and talk to the populace, you will find that they are currently controlled by factions who refused to join the other warring groups.

Would the Streets have a burning flag for a icon / symbol ??
are Streets like the Independents from ST ?

The Streets are areas that refuse to sign on with larger factions. This means they are usually defending themselves, and protecting their own, or are under the control of newly risen warlords and not the established set.

This seems like as fitting a thread to post this comment as I could find. So here it goes. I was messing around with the global matrix hack system and found that I could make lots of money wicked fast. (in the realm of 60k in like 20 minutes) so as I began wandering the maps to find groovy stuff to buy I realized that I had accrued 11k+ in heat! Yikes! so I guess my comment is if the matrix booths are lethal force enabled, maybe this thing should shock the hell outta me or something so I know when i'm gaining heat so I dont get carried away Also the clinics for implants should be able to remove old implants to make room for new, upgraded ones. Thanks for the awesome game. I haven't stopped playing it since i got it. I can't wait to see where you take it!

bernard - cyber clinics are slotted to have remove and upgrade capabilities in the near future. The matrix is due for a massive overhaul (keeping to the core idea you are enjoying now) but it will help you know when you are rocking your heat so high you can't walk afterwards. In fact, that will become dangerous. You might want to hire a Cyber Sword to watch over your comatose body and help you beat off the attack drones if you try to leave a terminal with 11k heat. Its coming! Keep getting the updates!

@tenebrous - we are looking to strongly break way from the normal concept of "hirelings" because its a less invested, less fun model. We'd love to hear peoples' ideas and feedback on this one. Fellow Cyber Knights and runners that you hire will not be meat shields. They will start near your level, and gain experience over time. You will need to pay them to stay with you, and when their term runs up, they will usually wander back to their haunts where you could pick them up again. In addition, you will choose when to help finance their new equipment purchase and cybernetic implants. The funding for those purchases will come out of your war chest. And, of course, your hired Cyber Knights or runners can die, and die permanently. Therefore, these are not mere meat shields. To keep them with you, and keep them effective, you have to invest--time, money, and blood--and hope that they will stick with you as well!

I'd actually be interested in seeing a feature where we can carve out our own little empire. Perhaps similar to the Streets, or even one step further and allow us work our way into ruling over them(or even one of the other syndicates, or our own custom one). I realize something like that would be WAAAAY far down the line, but it's just a thought I'd like to plant in your heads.
Anyway, having our own little posse would be pretty neat as well. Whatever better fits your vision for what the game should be.

On hiring a posse -- this is notably still a few weeks away. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome.
@hate - Thanks for +1-ing that idea. Cyber Knights will definitely incorporate parts of that idea, and as you know, we build games based on player ideas and feedback, so stay involved, and we will see where we go together!

All I know now is that I am rather excited to see this puppy flesh out.
Off-topic, but when do you plan to try your hand at animation there, Andrew?

How about a guard dog with you as a start. Similar to Mad Max, or the Fallout games?
