Just from an SNES Shadowrun standpoint a dog would be awesome.
I wonder if you have inspired Andrew to draw us guard dogs. Just have to wait and see i guess...

I dont see how attack drones would not just be hirelings, they are stupid robots that are very loyal,(narvidians havent turned against humans yet)and only thing they want is some fuel to keep them floating..

Or how about if your electronics and hacking skills were high enough. You could be able to hack an attack drone. Whether this would be a permenant part of your team would be down to your skills, its skills, and a little bit of luck.

I think that attack drones should not have their own skills, but its operators electronic skills determine its combat skills, and your gacking skill could protect it from getting hacked by enemies and vice versa. And the computer would affect it too. Would make those skills useful in combat too.

On the subject of hirelings, dogs, and drones -- my earlier comments do not cover all hirelings. The -best- hirelings will be other Cyber Knights and runners, who are able to become more powerful. Drones, dogs, and lower-power thuggers may join up and help out, but are a category of hirelings that won't grow with you. The best hirelings will grow with you--but you might also cry when they die.

Of course there should be throw away hirelings. The kind that you might consider 'rent-a-thugs' but there should also be almost a right hand man, so to speak. Someone who you seldom work without, and would feel a tragic loss should they die.

..this discussion has gone pretty much off-topic, so i would like to talk about politics again, so,my first suggestion:please make friendly corps' "polices" not attack you... Atleast make you to not lose rep when escaping from them... Because their actions dont sound very legal,"you see three "security guards" terrorizing a harmless civilian" i dedice to avoid, not interfer because i dont want to get any heat or lose repmwith this friendly corp. BUT!they shout"this is an ambush!!!" and i try to escape these "security guards" and i lose reputation without harming any of them... That sounds odd.

The thing to remember is you're just a gun for hire. You don't officially belong to any one faction. On top of that, just because the mob bosses know who you are doesn't mean the lowly grunts on the street do. Plus, there's always going to be those few that don't play by the rules.
Another thing to consider is that if you walk up to these guys pushing around a little old lady and playing keep away with her purse, and then decide to get involved, it only makes sense that they get a little pissed off. Whether you're a local hero or not, you're still sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. I also imagine that these gangers are all hopped up on drugs of all sorts, so their actions don't really need to make the most sense.

Are riot stars and soldiers on drugs!? Corp propaganda you have betrayed me!1! But its not about interfering, but when they attack me.. It happens then also... Its stupid when encounters go this way: "oh noes "friendly" "security guards" attack me with no reason!" "now i must let them kill me to not lose rep!" also i think gangers and "security guards" should have heat too. If the shopkeepers dont lie, then heat should be with EVERYONEnow it feels like its just with the player... And why come on I lose rep when running away, the corp leaders seem to not care when their soldiers kill their cheapest and most reliable contractor and dont get any stuff from him...its just plain ridiculous!

@taatuu - Thanks for sharing the feedback. Please know that both Cory and I have read the post and have been discussing the situation. The encounters system is one of the most "BETA" system in the bunch right now, and will be overhauled sometime in the near future. A lot of the changes are straight out of your suggestions.
Thanks for your patience--we will work harder to get this part of the BETA shaped up!

I think a more robust text display for combat(namely the "shooting" portion) should be considered. At the very least, a slightly clearer reason for being able to fire 2 shots in a row during some turns with speed 1 weapons would be appreciated.
The other thing that sort of irks me is that, even though I've raised my firearms and dexterity ranks quite a bit above that of the Los Val(for example)thugs, there will be times I'll empty my clip 2 or 3 times just trying to hit the lowest grunt in the bunch - he'll often be only 1 or 2 squares away! I understand that an RNG system needs to be there for balance reasons, but it's a bit ridiculous to spend THAT much ammo trying to hit and kill a guy that's much slower than me, has only 5 or 6 hit points, and is standing right in front me.
/rant
Sorry, I love the game and the direction it's headed, but that one thing irks me so damn much. It almost feels like skill points in don't really make a difference like you would think.

I hear you Hate. It's almost like being in the Matrix and trying to hit an agent. Even with a high Firearms skill and Dex, I still get occasions where a lowly 3hp grunt will dodge a clip from 1 square away, and I'm aiming. I just put it down to poor ammo, and my guns sights need to be re-aligned.

I realize this was a Politics topic, but that was what was on my mind at the time. Also, I still can't find a way to get rid of my high heat rating. No matter who's territory I hide out on, I'm still at 1300+ heat. Quite frustrating.
