Playing at hard for now... So I guess having to wait about 40+ turns before you can really start working on building up a colony is normal in this game... /sigh ;-) This can definitely be frustrating early game, but also generally all you're dealing with. I would suggest building an extra hab unit or two before your favorites, while focusing research on getting that starport 2.

euphorion, that can be a real pain. Here's a slight tweak on the approach you describe for starting a colony with Starport 1. The idea is to finish the Factory ASAP, once that is in place, it is easier to keep up with population. All building is subsidized. Start building the first Hab Unit. Once that Hab is within 1-2 turns of completion, start a Factory and make it the top priority. At that point the Factory is being built and the Hab is on hold. Once population goes to 2, make the Hab top priority and finish it. Then let the Factory be built for a couple of turns before starting your next Hab Unit. Etc... The colony will be overpopulated at times, but the factory will be done sooner.

A new question came up: I can't really work out what exactly "Trade Focus" (javat) does. There is also "Research Focus", buit I haven't researched this yet. "Enact system wide focus on Trade. 10 TP bonus"
Now, this stays idle in the production queue at 99/100 CP. And then the status is "100% - Active" So I assume I get that bonus now.
What does "system wide" mean? Do I need it just once for all colonies? or is it a bonus for each individual colony (I built it on more idle Javat colonies, and for those I checked the TP didn't increase, at least not by 10.
If I do need it only once - I assume I loose the bonus if I were to cancel it from the queue? Do I keep the bonus though if it's just at a lower spot of the queue (it still says "active" then).
Anyone can lighten me up on this? Thanks :-)

The way those Focus events work is as follows: 1) You build it. There is no bonus until it says 100% Active. If you shift it to lower in the queue, for example, so that Colony can build a Hab Unit, the bonus is not applied. 2) System Wide means that the whole Colony focuses on providing the bonus, as Colonies are entire Star Systems.

Can someone explain the difference between the difficulty settings (easy, normal, hard, etc), and the enemy settings (easy, average, extreme, etc)?
New to the game, so trying to find some easy maps to learn, practice, but choices seem limited. The maps I'm interested in most have a average or hard enemy choice, not easy. I know you can reduce enemy numbers, and set the game map to easy (with game description stating easy AI), but don't understand the correlation between the 2.

While I don't go into the intricate detail of the rolls and conditions for those rolls, I have a Primer video that I just filmed to help give new players insight on how to play and how to understand the UI. Please let me know what you think.

Ok, I've looked just about everywhere but i still cannot figure out how to build a Thulun Cutter. I researched it out 2 turns ago, but it doesnt show in my ship design list anywhere. Am I missing something?

Am I missing something? The Thulun Cutter is not a specific ship, rather it is a type of Hull, like all the other Hull designs you can research. To deploy it, you need to create a Ship design using that particular Cruiser hull variant.

On some maps you can see small "yellow" areas near some asteroids which can give you a good point for a carrier to sit during prolonged campaigns away from your planets. Other than that, they serve as obstacles for both navigation and as cover against torpedo strikes.
