After taking few weeks of vacation in Age of Pirates, I came back to a completely nasty AI! Playing the Delga 100 x 100 map in Hard. OMG Once I went past the middle hub around year 5, I was in a constant war with all 3 xeno at the same time for the next 5 years.
I was planning to get the Jyeeta on the upper right side of the map. That got into a stalemate. The best I can do is to create a thick neutral zone and wait it out. Then comes Sidtax on the lower left corner, harassment from a World Killer turns into all out war. Red Zorga came into contact on the upper left soon after but that is pretty much contained at this moment. There were all kinds of xeno colony ships incursions and they managed to established 3 colonies inside my central hub in the middle of the map, those were re-taken or destroyed shortly after. No end of World Killers visit as well along the front.
Fortunately my custom factions (Cadar, Thulun, Javat) are having good economy even in this full blown war. Only 1 Solar War ever appeared and that was changed to a Duel of Assassins quickly. My 10 troop transports long range invasion is gaining the upper hand with Sidtax finally. I am going to occupy what I can and destroy the rest. If I can grind Sidtax out, at least I can start dealing with the other two offensively.
Don't get me wrong, this is the kind of AI I expect once I play the harder level. However I do hope for some kind of economic victory condition at some point....

What would you propose for Victory Conditions? Do you want to be able to pick at the beginning? Or just receive a Victory Screen when you hit a certain Tech / Economic level? Should you be able to keep playing after that type of Victory?

I would say you can keep playing after you reach a Victory Condition. Maybe let Free users choose only one at a time and Elite users can choose to have multiple ones in play.

Should you be able to keep playing after that type of Victory? - I think all victory conditions should be selected by default but you can de-select them if you wish. - For Tech / Economic victory, allow the user to keep playing. Special achievement if you get a Military Victory (wiping out all xeno) after that. - Maybe a Peace Victory that can only be achieved after 10 years. No Xeno colony within certain number of squares from yours. Essentially you have created a good neutral zone!!!

There are no treaties with the Xeno. I know that. Peace means the Xeno colonies are so far out that don't bother to send out patrols near my colonies anymore because of whatever fuel restrictions they have. Essentially the colonists have "forgotten" about xeno since they have not been seen for years...... You Cory probably knows the thresholds in term of distances when the xeno ships will turn back due to fuel shortage.

The Xeno ships appear to have no travel restrictions based on fuel/water. Just as your own ships can travel indefinitely without refueling. Combat is also possible for ships without any water fuel as long as you are using just the simple barrage option.

The Xeno AI uses a different fuel system, but it imposes limits on how far it's ships will go.
When the AI goes into passive mode, it retracts that range. In aggressive mode, it expands it to find new worlds or enemies.
If you establish a 60-100 dead zone, most Xeno AI won't come after you. But they will keep getting stronger.

Neat. is there any particular reason a Xeno on hard with increased activity does absolutely nothing when i have a colony within 12 tiles of them ? guess that means they are looking the other way !

No particular reason -- they are expanding the other direction, haven't decided to attack you, have too little money, are massing for an attack. Could be a number of reasons.

Or they could be scared out of their .....well whatever they have.
I have the Sidtax with a world exactly 14 tiles from my brand spanking newly colonized mining centers (2 red giants with some yellows in between) protected by 3 fighters and a heavy carrier. The Zenga has 2 worlds 15 tiles from my Prime planets, with 4 fighters, 3 cruisers, 2 heavy carriers and a heavy cruiser. And the Krangg are fleeing from my taskforce of 8 fighters, 7 carriers, 6 cruisers, and 3 invading transports (with 30xp each from already laying out 3 of their planets.)
Faced with what is apparently a superior force, they might not be interested in being the aggressors after I went all wasp on the Krangg. I do have 37 colonies and 42 ships currently...(though 5 of those are colony ships because expansion!!)
It is nice to see the improvements to their logic on the smaller maps though. Makes them a bit more fun and challenging. ;>

There are no treaties with the Xeno. Funny, xeno seem to have no problem making treaties with each other when they attack all me simutaniously.
