So I continued with the mission. Upon completion, I was paid, but now have 0 credits again... I'm gonna try and recreate the game settings on OSX and see if I can recreate.

New game, playing as explorer, 31 sectors on my iPad. For my second mission, I was to pickup a package and return, getting paid 2147.5 million credits upon return. Upon completion, I noticed that there was an embargo going on in my Prince's home planet. Finishing the mission led to the log showing 2.147m credits, but my existing credits (around 20K) and the mission credits aren't there. Hmmm. bug. And maybe the embargo had something to do with me not getting paid/robbed? Didn't see any type of notification... The next two missions offered were 'deferred payment', so I jumped back over to the previous 'mid-mission' planet, where I had met a new contact, and accepted a similar mission ... in which he offered me 2147.5m credits as well. I figured, what the heck, might as well try it, and capture the screens. but then this guy actually paid me! So, I asked for more missions, and he offered me a bunch of credits again! Ok, so I'm going to go nuts upgrading my ship and buying spice for everyone, but something is fishy here...

I think that would be a good use of the space we got back by no longer having 'on board' and 'on patrol'. Yah, had it on my mental UI list that, it would be great to see how much useful info/graphics we could integrate into the crew list page. Morale Health Experience Bar (how close to next level) Traits Discovered (three dots), perhaps green or red (depending on positive or negative trait); maybe a glowing dot for traits that have evolved/migrated since being checked ??

I like the current distribution -- but that is probably because it is very helpful for my play style. Not sure how to address both groups, people who need Contacts to be more than 5 and people who want them to be less than 5. This could be a starting character option? Not sure yet how to address... Yah, I think playing style is a great way to look at it. I don't mind the spread distribution, kind of look at it as a reason to explore. Asking a lot, but it would be really cool if there were a reason for the faraway contact (special weapon, mission or ??) rather than a distribution equation.

The only missing indicator that is required atm is # of Components that are more than 60% dmg. Hoping to get it in before the update, definitely! That's a great way to handle it...

But it doesn't tell you how damaged your ship is. How is that going to be handled? There is a hull indicator on the main map....

Definitely down the road, but I envision a number of 'events' triggering change in the warning lights (positive or negative). When this happens, a temporary green up arrow or red down arrow could appear, giving visual feedback on results of a given action.
Really good job on the HUD warning lights guys, addresses a number of head-scratchers I'd been thinking about.

Any thoughts of leaving the icons there (good or bad situation), but changing from blue or green to orange-ish with the angry arrow?

Submitted same/similar crash when trying to 'Learn Talents' on my Level 17 captain. I found that scrolling through the job talents would cause the crash. I could reload the game and repeat, even after going another 100 turns. As long as I didn't try to learn talents for the Captain, I could continue.
I was able to come up with a workaround after selecting a talent where I didn't have to scroll down. Waiting for the Captain to upgrade again to see if this crash happens again, or if my workaround got me through the bug.
Also of note is that none of my other characters have had this 'scroll on talents' issue, just the Captain. I sent my game files to Cory, so hopefully he'll be able to get this fixed.

Tried to sell some things at a market, the trade ban description called out a ' Trade Ban between Clan Javat and Clan Javat'.
I'm often scratching my head on the cause of trade bans, figure future UI will improve my understanding, but in the above example, not sure why I'd lose rep with Clan Javat (trading on a Javat planet.. maybe it's goods of Rychart origin? Or that I'm playing a Cadar?), but not something I concerned myself with at this point (just a mental note that it isn't clear... yet). Also, would have expected some text after executing a trade that Rep was impacted by -XX in the description, don't recall seeing that either (again, just a mental note that the improved UI will probably take care of it.). The reason I bring this up is that later I did a run of selling goods (total of 80-100 units of stuff in less than a dozen transactions) during a Steel Song trade ban, and my Rep went from approx -25 to -1001. I was unaware that the Rep was taking such a beating with each transaction (or whether the $ amount factored in) Other times, I've had screens say that there is a trade ban going on, but my Rep will go up with the home planet faction if I trade with them (Maybe this was a trade war and I mis-read?). So... just lots of mental notes that the current UI/descriptions aren't very clear right now. Just to be complete, the below image is just to confirm that the Trade Ban exists in the Faction Politics screen.
