We actually tried that and it didn't work.
In the death throws where I fought to defend "ON STATION" there were about a half dozen builds where ONLY officers could be assigned to specific quarters, instead of the entire Crew.
Alas, it was also horrible. We tried, we really did.
At some point the alpha team was like "Stop, please, stop. You're embarrassing yourselves. Let it go."

Oh yeah we'd be getting tons of emails about that one for sure.
Anything that thwarts bug reporting usually gets the angry emails lol
Can you email me your system info output, I can try to rent a machine with your hardware spec

Tested 1M runs, no log duping was detected.

That doesn't make much sense, at least to me.
I suppose we have different philosophies about it.
For the Star Traders games, there is very much a reason to show it to the player.

I get the same message and status when I abort the mission (or complete) with a dead templar about them being dead. However if you just go back to battle (click retry if you complete the mission with them dieing) even if the status says dead you can place them in your squad and they will be in the mission. If you complete the mission with them alive it, their alive/dead status will reset. This matches my (10 year old) memories of how it works. We added a "not permadeath" mode after the game was launched -- originally, the ONLY mode was IRONMAN. So a lot of the messages aren't difficulty aware. Crazy that game came out a decade ago!

Enough HP to survive the next hit [to the component they are in] during Ship Combat.

Yeah, the hover is a great idea. Out of curiosity, does reducing mass for a damaged component do anything important in the model? I was just wondering if the player even needs to see it. Or is this just chrome? Yeah, has impacts on mechanics in combat, landing and fueling. Very little, if anything in STF is just chrome for the sake of chrome. We really don't have the budget for that kind of stuff. We spend almost all the money on design and testing.

Not sure we're communicating very well -- negative HP? Sorry this one has caused so much confusion and back and forth. I wish I was better at writing documentation and explanations!
Thank you for the DB file -- that is helpful. I will run the saved game file you linked through the analyzer to see if there are any issues found. If there is anything wrong with the file, I'll report back right away.
I'm still hopeful that the discussion on Discord spills over to the forum, or some other players chime in here.
I will try very hard to set aside a block of hours to go back over the Wiki pages and code to try to improve the documentation for the Talent, and see if I can write up a detail description that makes sense to you and answers more questions than it creates.
Again, very sorry for the negative experience. Hopefully it gets cleared up soon!

I saw it -- I just posted one theory on it. I was hoping someone else would post an explanation, maybe on Discord. Sorry for the crew losses <3

A bonus from a hidden Trait doesn't show up in the crew Stats screen, does it? At least, I don't remember seeing that I've been wondering: if a bonus is hidden because its Trait is hidden, does it still apply, to Initiative or elsewhere? The bonuses that we could hide in the stats screen are hidden, yes. The bonuses still apply mechanically.

This all looks like it is working. The Crew member is being saved, but probably not restored to enough HP.
The log you'll find in the combat log is "%s's %s Talent saved %s from imminent death, restoring HP to %d."
The restore rating is not scaled on difficult -- depends heavily on Medical Rating and Doctor Skill.
What is your Ship's Medical Rating?

"Life Saver for ship combat is fixed" I doubt we'll be making any balance changes to the mechanics of Live Saver. If you send in saved games, I might be able to offer a better explanation. Sorry
