Brutus Aurelius since you said roll 4D6 and keep highest 3, then assign scores in whatever order desired I'm wondering if there is any class related reason to assign my 2 highest scores to the Class Prime attributes or if I can assign a low score to one of them and only take penalties for actions/skills directly linked to that skill? You do not need both scores to be high, only one needs to be 14+. It all depends on your preference and your intentions for the character. I will be posting the info thread, including map and planetary descriptions shortly.

A navigator will likely be necessary. Unless you want the captain to be the navigator.

wascalwywabbit If you are fine with your stat roll you can keep it. As for the ship, I'm looking as having you guys be the crew of a Free Merchant ship.

Just checking in before work. Are we generating characters or are we waiting for the map to finish? You can generate characters now, stat wise. I'll have background ready for the planets soon.

Ok, so Sector TB-348 is coming along well. All planets have been randomly generated and given names and groupings. I'm working on pulling the tags into a coherent description All I need to do is generate Faction names and descriptions and you guys will have a list of homeworlds.

I'm fine with 4d6, drop the lowest, any order, no point transfer.

Everyone who is thinking of a background should wait a bit until I have the available homeworlds, as they will color your character's upbringing and personality.

I like that idea. Perhaps you could play the Captain as an NPC? That would work. I'll create a sector now then, so that you guys can pick homeworlds. When I am ready I can start an info thread.

I should have time to look it over some tonight... Fine with whatever universe, but SWN is new to me so I'll probably be a little slow on the uptake... Might make my guy have something he's doing on the sly, both for role play and an easy excuse for any absence of me my family or illness may require... Having the group be part of a starship crew could create an excuse for that then.

OK, let's start ironing out some details here. Are we all OK with Stars without Number being our game universe? --I am Looking at the cost of many things, especially a ship that we will need to get off whatever planet we find ourselves, are we going to meet a captain who will hire us, or do I just shut up and shoot things in the face and have faith that the DM has an awesome, bad ass campaign in store for us (the more likely scenario, but I've never played anything in this universe so I don't know what to expect...) Do you have any lists handy for good items or basic things we are going to need as a group, or certain things that new players typically overlook and end up needing? Are there character sheets we need to fill out? Where are they (if you have a page number for the manual that would be great, no need to cut and paste/link everything unless you want to...) I'm fine with Stars Without Number. Expect Sector maps to be pictures, as I cannot find an editable one. I'll probably use Photoshop. After I create a sector, anyway. I was thinking of having a Captain hire you guys or have you start as crew on a ship. Character sheets are on page 252. For basic items I would recommend budgeting for ammo, and any basic necessities you deem necessary. If everyone is in favor of SWN, then I will start creating a sector for us to play in

xdesperadoI think the rule you are referencing is in the design notes as a game where everyone has psychic potential. I think I will cleave closer to the established universe for now, as this is my first time doing this particular system. After a quick look, I like the idea of some sort of wandering Warrior. Keeps to himself but doesn't shy away from people too much. Spends most of his time in the backwater wastelands living off nature. Works for money mostly but also has a heart and sometimes just jumps right in when he sees someone in trouble without thinking about it first. I'll need to read some more to see how to create this guy unless you want to do it for me Brutus Aurelius . I have no problems with playing a DM created character. Edit: Choice of weapons is he'll use whatever he can, but always has 3 things, the most powerful gun he can get a hold of, the sharpest blade he can find, and a way to start a fire. I'm fine with you creating your own character. Character creation only requires a handful of rolls.

Brutus Aurelius will you be allowing multiclassing in character advancement or keep it strictly single class? As I understand the rules there is no multiclassing. Each class does have a broad spectrum of skills and abilities, including specific abilities that allow for different roles both in combat and in general. If there were more than 3, I might allow it, but there are only 3. So no. I also forgot to mention earlier that each class has two abilities, one of which must be 14 or higher for you to take that class. If you have one that is 14 or above, and one that isn't, you can still boost the other to 14 for free.
