If a pirate loots any W/F, it isn't much. I typically start my combat class out with the the one with the smuggler hold because of the 2* Eng/Sail. I have never looked in my cargo itself but the few times I looked on the map screen it didn't seem to change.
Either way, thank you for your advice on the merchant class. After my "honey do" list I will reroll one. *sigh* I accidentally deleted one that had permits with every faction *DOH*

Good info, thank you. Will have to try it out on my merchant. I use whatever the ship that has then W/F tank already in it.

Thank you. Yeah, trade permits keep pirates off my ass. Pilot is important for running in this case. Enough stealth to avoid torps. Enough tactics to land one. Next question may sound stupid, but is negotiation truly that critical? Meaning I've read that if it is too high, it actually hinders the merchant.

I have been fiddling around with a pacifist merchant. Mind telling me how you play it? Typically ... a pirate's life for me , I typically take what I want from the houses or clans and indy ships. I normally have cache on multiple planets because of the lack of protection from hunters.

Am I missing something concerning the smuggler? There truly are no illegal goods, just depends on whether that faction is friendly to me. Forgive my criticism here, but without a full out illegal good/s and a black market (ie miltary grade weapons involving non military) there is no point in smuggling to gain records. Records are used for reputation gain to buy trade permit to keep that factions pirates.

Thulun Honor ship is fairly balanced with the exception of a bloody boots captain. 2x EHR and SHR with no modifications. Decent crew and good hold.
Mind you, I'm no where near the knowledge of some of these players on here.

So I've been looking at the starting smuggler build and how it creates records. He starts with Negotiation and Tactics. His att build is heavier with Charisma and Quickness. He is nudged to be a merchant. I need to think about how to build him as I go mow the lawn lol.

Can you explain to me the surveillance ability that the BH/MO have? I don't understand the purpose.

I don't play nicely with song birds lol. I'll hit up Da Walmart and and Rychart. My thought this time is to befriend the syndicates. The houses will be kept around neutral. Do the hit on the house, buy the pardon after. I'm trying to play him as a BH so my tactics will only be high enough to keep a few torps on target, stealth just to avoid torps and high level encounters. Pilot and warrior are crucial to me. So far so good , but my BH is still a baby. Only dropped into pilot up to 13 right now.

Thanks for the posts. I have the skill set correct. Think I'm just allocating it wrong and need to buy pardons before they get to costly. I started a new Cadar BH and , although you and Cory may argue this , I find that the syndicates better for BH and a better path through reds , barring the random trade embargo. Few questions: I might be mistaken , but it seems Solar War no longer gives -rep in exchange. True? What all does the warrant do? I know jobs are randomized a bit, but are there better chances for a capture/kill from the palace/base/hall and does a certain faction give them out more?

Ok, I am getting frustrated. I want to play a bloody boots type. I have been trying to use the BH. Can I get some advice on how to build him? I have been trying to just run missions , but fall in rep with too many factions and costing me tons of money. Frustrated , need advice.

Do not anger alliances too early. You will either run out of money repairing or a miltary/bounty will come after you that is much higher level... might as well shoot yourself out the airlock. These guys have helped me a lot.

Ok here is my issue with merchant. I might be doing it wrong as well. Being I'm not combat oriented, it's very hard to get xp. If I drop too much in stealth, I cut that back even more. I dropped points into explore for something to do while I wait out some trade embargoes and spy wars. Otherwise I could have a permit with all factions. Should I just go around trading looking for surplus/shortage or run missions for exp?
