contributor & En1gma - maybe we can hold off the discussion on how Neptunes are squarely better until Team Neptune trounces you in the challenge? You're stealing the victory thunder! We'll be happy to take closer look at the balance of the flame. This has been a great, intensive experiment in the two, and it is nice to have a cadre of folks who are truly versed in the comparison between the two. I know it has been eye opening for me, just how powerful a squad can get if you dedicate all of your Swap points to bringing in the heaviest of heavies. Makes me very glad that we built Swap how we did. In terms of residual data that we have about the napalm that is on the map, the only number we are able to carry forward is the Talent Level by which it was created, so it simply cannot be based on the weapon / talent / etc Damage.

Fair enough. I was going to start a thread with some thoughts after the challenge, but then I saw the discussion turning. This is becoming painful to watch. The Hydras are getting trounced. Too bad johndramey ran into that bug ( fallen you'll have to tell me how you pulled that off in a PM). It seems like me and En1gma are going to be the only ones to complete for our team....!

contributor - it probably is a measure of the security of OW. I said it earlier -- the challenge will be determined by Deaths. Most of us can post up the same scores on most levels. So Deaths ... OW prevents deaths ... Neptunes are king of OW ... Neptunes win! I have had such a good time playing in the challenge, and it sounds like a final net result might be some fun changes to make sure the argument is fair -- that Hydras and Neptunes can stand on equal footing.

Posted my final score. One turn short of victory, a Lancer stepped out of the fog, and beyond the range of OW -- nuked Lucius. My second death of the challenge, painful to see. Overheating had already brought him low on health.
Final Score 36

En1gma - it made for an exciting ending. He was tasked with taking the western generator. Luckily, he had just reached it. One turn earlier, and I would have definitely lost the level entirely.

Whoa! When did we get Liches on the Southbound Trail!
One just came out of nowhere and zapped a scout for 100 damage. Now at 10 HP, no deaths yet, but this challenge just got a lot tougher to complete with zero deaths!

Final score coming in at 37. No deaths and 5 Neptunes on the ground in the final level. I sent my captain solo for one of the generators and he got mauled down to 30 HP before I could recover the medkits. That was probably a mistake. But lumbering Neptunes with high level attack talents swept all before them. When I started 1-shoting hunters with a few levels left, I was pretty sure that Team Neptune was going to take the cup. On Brutal with the Neptunes I never had a moment that I felt needed to be immortalized in a screenshot. The Hydras definitely are flashier but the Neptunes get the job done. Another big +1 to contributor for this great challenge.

I just finished the Traitor' s Bunker deployment, and finished with a final total of 33 Neptune deployments and 0 deaths. Bringing me to a final score of 39! Long live the Neptune!

Well, we talked about extending so everyone can finish, but I think we can already declare Neptunes the Winner. Well played gentlemen! We can also declare Brutus Aurelius the Champion for posting the highest overall score (in fact I think he underestimated, the bonus for Ironman-nodeath is "8"). Kinda wishing right now that I wouldn't have told xdesperado multiple times that this will definitively settle the Hydra-Neptune question. Maybe he was right afterall... Thanks to everyone who played. Others are welcome to give the challenge a shot, even if it's just for fun.

I'm fine with calling it now. Like I've said, I'm playing a Neptune group alongside the Hydras, and the differences are immediately apparent-- the biggest being that OW is powerful at level one, and will stop just about anything. As flashy as the Hydra is, that one aspect is enough to completely overpower Promethium in just about every way.
OW can kill a mob in 1 hit, usually 2-3, where it takes a dozen freshly blazing squares to kill even a Skittering. Mobs that take lethal damage from the flames still don't even die before they can attack, making the Hydra even less powerful.
Good game everyone, you earned it for sure. The ability to hold ground with OW would make it far easier to hold out and recruit your team. Every single turn spent waiting for the SP to rack up enough to deploy another Hydra was absolutely harrowing, even on Brutal. No salt here, I just feel bad for the Hydras on this one- I'm no expert at this game and I did my dammed hardest to do my team justice, you saw the screenshots, LOL!

The ability to hold ground with OW would make it far easier to hold out and recruit your team. This challenge has been a lot of fun, but I agree that OW skews it towards Neptune. Last night I pulled out 7 Neptunes by turn 18/20 in Tunnel Complex. Only my captain took any damage at all. I can't imagine trying to hold the 1st TP for 18 turns with only 2 Hydras (and 1 turret).
