Actually Kanly you need to finish it out. You've got the potential to unseat Brutus Aurelius. Neptune Fight!

En1gma & contributor - you're both Templar champions of the highest order. This challenge has helped me appreciate the two specialists in a new way, and helped me want to look deeper into the fine-tuning of the Hydra. I think we'd loose something if we made flames work like OW -- it would all start to be the same -- but that means the up-balance has to be put elsewhere. Burn baby burn, stay tuned for more. I will post my ideas here as I have them for review by our champions.

You do me much honor, Creator. I agree that flames should not be anywhere the same as OW. I don't know how you would make it so Xeno take enough damage to make the flames worth it. There were several times during my campaign that I had attempted (and succeeded in) to completely engulf areas in Promethium, which looked amazing, but did little to stem the flow of Xenoforms. I find myself wishing that Hellstorm could be placed wherever, much like Napalm Charge and Lance. Hydras feel like they want to be preventative members of the team, and I think they need to be able to lay down their fire anywhere they want, whenever they want. I know that they can only hold so much Promethium at once, so I don't know how you would balance it, but it would be nice. I found myself laying down Napalm Charge and Lance every single turn I could, because to be most effective they need to deal as much damage to incoming enemies that they can, so Promethium wants to be laid down on any angle of approach that you aren't using. Only being able to use their Hellstorm on enemies within range seemed like a waste when you could fry the area instead and cover a huge swathe with Charge or Lance. Right now I guess I would request Hellstorm to be AoE like Charge and Lance, keep the templates the same, but allow them to be put directly on the field. I also would love for the flames to factor in weapon/talent fire damage, though I believe you said that was impossible which is a shame. Would it be possible to apply the highest talent level factor to all attacks in this case then? Thanks for considering an up-balance for the Hydra, fallen

The three lab sheeps looked at all the data from the battles.
"Do you think this settles it now?" asked number 1.
"Yes and no," replied 2, "both sides still have major strong points over the other. I think the TB's may do some tweaking to Hydras. It also still comes down to personal preference, fire vs lead."
"I still say the SDF-1 is better." said 3.

My quest to surpass Brutus fell woefully short on Detonation Site when I hit the trifecta of mass Goliaths, neglected soldiers, and terrible play.
Still, good enough for #2 on the gplay NM boards.
Fun challenge, thanks for putting it together.

Well, I'm not exactly following the challenge, but I did decide to try a Neptune focused squad. I decided to go for the 4th artifact in the vaults, which was right-top. There were so many xeno in there, but with the Neppies it was such a slaughter-fest. This might be my best Neptune screenshot yet. The vaults are on lock-down. All your artifact are belong to us now...

Warning all Hydras and Neptunes, the chips have been counted and a big fireball of an update is coming.
A huge thanks to everyone who participated on both sides of this community challenge. It was very revealing and helped us on the latest rebalance. We found a few nasty bugs that were nerfing Hydra, some mistakes in the weapon balancing, and other factors that were keeping the two from lining up fairly.
That is all about to change.

Oh yeah, love hearing that the Neptunes had snuck some Narv coding into the Hydra subroutines that prevented the Hydra's from showing their true might in the challenge. Think that after the bugs get squashed and the Hydra's reach their full potential they'll be wanting a rematch to set the record straight on who's really the best!

I'll be sure to let you know when I have a sandwich that I'd like toasted. Let the real troops take care of the baddies.

Like all those times where we need you to burn out a Xeno drop pod... Oh wait, that's literally never happened.

My Hydra game is 100% improved since this, and I've gone up in difficulty as well.

How much time do you have to complete the challenge once begun? I'd be interested in participating but don't necessarily have a ton of time right now.
