Huge military rank gives more friendly encounters in faction space. But the level is quite random, with minimum lv 1 and maximum lv 190% of your level.

Sorry, I forgot to respond about ranks. Higher military ranks for a faction will make it so they offer more high paying contracts, and completing contracts will award bonus reputation. However, contracts offered will also be more difficult, so only get a high military rank if you are prepared for that. Come on, messages, cargo and passengers always have the same difficulty I suspect those contracts get higher travel distance required, and/or less weeks to complete, but I'm not entirely sure.

From experience I would say that it is wrong. Huge rank gives higher pay, but the distances can get huge regardless of the rank. Perhaps they are more likely to be further away, but I think that it has more to do with the game difficulty than rank.

Damaged must have been a space hive, which isn't necessarily an alien. Space hives aren't bound by rules, I have found one even 80x my level... If you met an alien, you would probably be dead...

You traded with the Syndicates? SO YOU ADMIT YOU'RE A TERRORIST!!!!!1!!1!!!!!1!, er, I mean, if you're playing a noncombat class, avoid trade embargoes like the plague. If you're an explorer, sell to Independent worlds if you must. If you're a merchant, and all your normal trading partners are embargoed, consider taking a bunch of delivery contracts while buying W-F from Independents.
The Trade Embargoes will expire eventually, but as I said earlier, you can bypass some trade embargoes entirely by being Rank 18 or higher with the faction that issued the embargo.

Trade wars have no bans. Only trade embargoes, and you just can't avoid them, only being immune by being rank 18 (which costs $340.000 and you need to have 180 reputation)

There is no practical way to make a trade embargo end faster, but having a Tradesman officer will, to a certain degree, reduce your rep loss when trading under an embargo.

As a merchant at least... and explorer. If a combat class, then I avoid any embargoes against the houses. The point is, you CAN avoid embargoes. Spending all that money and getting all the rep required for rank 18 as a merchant or something is NOT recommended (by me at least. You don't have to listen to me.) Especially for EACH faction. I say get trade permits with all factions, and then get political officer to warn you of embargoes in case you're forgetful and don't check conflicts. Though, you can all do it your own way, of course. It IS Star Traders.

Zer0Winds actually, it's not that bad to have rank 18, just leave house Thulun in rank 1. Why house Thulun? Simply, it offers a lot for electronics.
