Hey all!
While waiting for Star Traders 2 to be released, I'm wanting to go over STRPG Elite again and I'd appreciate some advice on how to build a successful gunner/boarder pirate. What's the best allocation of XP for skills and attributes

Gunner/boarder is the hardest one to build, it's better to just focus on one thing.

poryg thanks, I'd like a build where I can shoot at human vessels and fight aliens most possibly with guns alone, if not then a pure warrior boarder. Any suggestions?

I feel that a gunner is the easiest build, and is also very effective. 200% pilot, 100% - 150% tactics. I stop at 10 Stealth and 6 - 10 Intimidate.
Largest Hull I use is 12 so my 30 engines make me a terror to other ships. With the high pilot and engines, you will avoid most boarding attempts. There is also an upgrade that gives 2 armor and resistance to boarding(forgot the name).
Pirate, MO, or BH for that build. Keep Stealth either at 200% or same as Tactics for a Spy.
I feel that playing for the Syndicates is best since they are all clustered together in the starting area, while Steel Song is broken away from the other two clans. Sometimes I play for Independents, but that is only when I'm bored and want to fight everybody.
Pilot Officer with a Bridge upgrade is awesome. Talk about overkill lol.

Thanks, that's detailed distribution of xp. Will this build be able to take on those nasty aliens?

Apparently on high difficulties the only way to beat the strongest aliens is by boarding, but I haven't run across anything like that myself so I wouldn't know. I was told that until I understand the difference of planet types, I have to keep playing on Demanding lol

Why boarding, are they immune to guns for some reasons? I made a gunner focused captain in challenging but is able to take aliens head to head. The strongest ones I've seen so far are those hives that are ridiculously over levelled. Is this different in impossible difficulty?

I think what it means is since on higher difficulties you will run into high lvl captains and stronger ships, those alien hives would be extremely difficult to beat by gunning out their engines. But I think people say that because in the past Strength didn't increase lvl, so more points were put in the other skills of the aliens. Now that Strength is counted towards lvl, you should be able to beat them as a gunner. One of the veteran players could explain it better

There is someone that can actually beat those hives?? Man that's insane! Everytime I encounter them, they always escape being in a level that is really above mine

Some hives are possible to beat. But most of them aren't. As for aliens... You can deal with many aliens by guns. But beating an alien that is 3x your level by guns is impossible. If he can board you first, your guns will do literally no damage at all to him. That is why I board the aliens.

Any suggested build, exact xp allocation and ships for dealing with aliens? I heard that veteran officers increases the value of alien ships to salvage

I don't think that there is any unbeatable "God" build in ST RPG. At least not when it comes to Aliens on higher difficulty settings. There is always something that can end your run, even if the odds of encountering them are very low. Even boarding is not as good as it was, since they changed the way that strength influences your level. But, to me knowing that no run can last forever is part of playing ST RPG. Ultimately, a good gunner or boarder build will keep you alive the longest, but there's no guarantee of immortality. Gunner's are easier to build and play though. Also staying in those safe green squares and avoiding artifacts will decrease your chances of meeting aliens.

I made a guide for Gun-focused Bounty Hunter captains. It's not entirely complete, as I still need to edit a few small things. Here's the link: startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/13996/gunner-bh-guide-hunters-legsWhile you can destroy some aliens that aren't too far past your level, the best strategy for surviving aliens with this build is to get the Escape Shuttle, and ram any aliens until your hull is destroyed.
