We will continue to gather feedback from players and see if this is something that needs to change.
Thanks!

Try a different Template and you'll probably find different results.
Different play styles, however, are part of the game. If you don't like the small ship advantages, you can use a different type of ship!
Thanks for posting, Cory

That is very interesting.
The average player is carrying around 2.2 non-story missions while completing story objectives AND trading.
I wonder why your experience is different than that. I will continue to monitor and respond to feedback from players.
Welcome back

You might want to post a question about how to build your Template. If you're struggling with a small ship start, you must be doing something differently than other players. You mention not having Talents which makes me wonder what Profession priority you're having. If small ships aren't for you, then you should definitely play the way you want. That is why we included so many options!!! PS: Stealth from ST RPG is in the game just called "Navigation"

Keep in mind that Starport, Economy and Military ratings will limit your component selections.
Thanks for playing, sorry you seem to be having so many negative experiences. We will try to improve.

Thanks for the feedback. We will continue to monitor player data and do our best to balance the players who want it shorter and more challenging and the players who want a more relaxed experience.
Save slots, which we recently added, may help. Also, playing on a custom difficulty may give you a chance to better balance you game experience.
Thanks for the feedback@

She's the prettiest ship in the game, at least for now. I'm not much of a min/maxer so that's good enough for me. The only thing I would change would be that extra officer slot. I'm glad someone likes something!

It would be nice to have a slightly better breakdown of what each ship comes with default. While 'max officers' is nice, it would be good to know that it COMES with only max-1 (ie, raptor has I think 5 max, but only comes with 4 officer cabins/captain's bridge) Same for cargo. So that if you have one ship with 2 max-kitted cargo-holds (4 levels right now I think at ~45 cargo for the top), it would help to know the next ship-size up I'm looking at, only starts with 1 cargo-hold... and I'd have to swap out some other component to put in the 2nd, etc We agree. Team of two. Thanks for playing!

Maybe it is just me, but when I am traveling, I have quite a lot of stops where the only thing I need to do is refuel. So I turn on auto-refuel at the start of the game, click once to land, click once to take off. Do you have analytics on how many new users (who started after this UI was introduced) even found the auto-refuel button? Yes.

I honestly feel 4 is balanced but I'm also one of those normie players who don't experiment beyond my comfort zone. Glad you like it.

I have to say the initial "startup phase" of a new captain is a bit of a damper on the process and limits how much (or how far) I'm willing to experiment with. I have found this mostly since day 1 (maybe day 10 :-)) and I'm glad I won't have to keep my directory of archived save games as much anymore. Yeah ... for the rare people that were messing with saved files, this solution probably isn't good enough. We did our best to thread the needle and provide a middle ground solution that will make the most people happy while making the minimum number of people unhappy. From the email and Steam reviews, we seem to have hit the target. Sorry it doesn't work for you, daveal ...

Very interesting. Thanks for trying it -- your small ship data was added to the ever-expanding data set the tracks player performance across the population of people playing the game.
I am curious why you found it "painful, even on normal difficulty" and what build / strategy you used. I'm very curious to compare it to the data and other player experiences.
It seems like these posts are made with "minds made up" about the game, so I won't try to change anyone's opinion about how the game works -- everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and preferences. If small ships aren't for you, then you should definitely play the way you want.
I am curious to gather any specific observational or fact-based information that I can synthesize with the game information to try to improve.
Thankfully, analytical data gives us a very good picture of the general population of players, of whom approximately 1% use this forum.
Thanks for posting!!!
